FIXING A SLOW COMPUTER
A slow computer could be caused by a number of things - 1. Insufficient RAM (memory) - if your computer has less than 512Mb of RAM then increase it to at least 1Gb of RAM. 2. Registry problems - clean and repair the registry, it will contain unused registry keys. Use programs such as Registry Mechanic, Microsoft RegClean etc. 3. Uninstall/remove unused programs, this will also free up hard disk space. 4. Not enough hard disk space - swap file space may need to be increased if Windows hasn't been configured to manage it. 5. Install latest Windows updates. 6. Update virus definition files and scan computer for viruses, Trojans, malware etc. 7. Clear the Internet cache for faster browsing. 8. Hard disk maintenance is required at least once a month to keep it functioning efficiently. Run the following programs - Disk Cleanup - removes temporary files that are no longer used and to recovers hard disk space. Disk Defragmenter to make fragmented files into contiguous files and therefore the hard disk access is faster.

My acer laptop does not display but it runs.what is the problem?

Shari,

There are many things we can try to find out why this is. To start, When the computer boots, Do you hear the windows chime? this will indicate the laptop boots. otherwise we could be looking at other hardware.

With the laptop turned on, if you hold a flashlight to the LCD you may be able to see faint images. This would indicate an issue with the LCD or the Inverter located in the laptop and you should have it serviced by a professional to repair such items.

Also while booting the laptop we want to watch all the lights on the laptop. Occasionally when a hardware item fails we identify it with a bios Beep code. In laptops this is a flashing light that will blink either by the AC plug, Right under the LCD, or the front of the laptop.

When we start the laptop does the fan spin up very hard and then slow down again? do we hear a beep shortly after? This indicates what we call "A post" it means your processor, Video, and Ram all passed intitial tests to start your computer. If there is no beep dont panic as not all laptops do this. The fan however, if it does not slow down will indicate a hardware issue. This typically can be CPU, RAM, or Motherbord.
When your computer boots, does the screen stay completely black or does it boot past a splash screen and go to a flashing curser? This could indicate a hard drive issue. Usually repairable unless we hear clicking from somewhere in the device.

The last thing I would suggest trying is if you have a regular computer with a regular monitor, you can plug the monitor into the side of your laptop to see if the screen comes up on it. There may be a keyboard shortcut you have to press and if you let me know what model Acer laptop I may be able to help you with that as well.

Good Luck!

Lap top to slow to starting

This mainly happens when ur windows is regularly updated but the main reason is that u might not be clearing the temporary files which increase the booting time..For this-
Go to START>RUN
*Type there 'TEMP'(not case sensitive) and in the window that appears, select all files and delete them.
*After this, in the RUN dialog box type, '%TEMP%' and select all the files appearing in the window that appears and delete all the files.
Performing this task regularly would surely make a change...

Power on with fan running fast for 3 seconds, then slowed down but no display and no operation

Computer does not boot up The problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

Slow booting and sudden switch off

The reason may be one or more problems acting together. The problem nowadays is that it is very difficult and time consuming to monitor and take care of your Lenovo laptop. Even experienced users find it hard to perform such tasks on regular basis because you might need to prepare a huge amount of time and energy to deal with each issue separately.

If you want to fix the problems more efficiently, try the Lenovo speed up program. Regards!
