Unable to play DVDs in Windows Media Player & Power DVD

The standard version has Windows Vista® Home Basic Edition SP1. This version do not have native support for decoder to watch DVD movies. Install a good DVD player like WinDVD or any other DVD player software. This will install the necessary decoder. Once this is done even if the installed trial version expire, your windows media player will still play the movies. However, if you like the software, make it fully licensed version on-line. not sure whether its a problem with the drive or a problem with windows media player. Take a can of air and blow some onto the laser of the dvd drive, this will make sure that there is no dirt or dust on the laser.

Once you do that put the dvd back into the drive. Give it about 20-30 seconds and then see if it tries to pull up the movie if it does and your getting errors from windows media player then we know that the drive is working cause its seeing the movie properly.

At that point, I would suggest downloading the latest version of windows media player.

After doing that and installing it, try playing your movie again, in fact try several movies just to make sure. Windows Media player may want to download Codecs, if it does then let it. This will allow it to recognize dvds better and quicker.

If the codecs are updated and you still can't get it to see and play movies then I would suggest using a different dvd player such as Cyberlink PowerDVD located on this page:

Win Media Player does play videos but not all formats...

Verify your DVD player and Sound card is listed without errors in device manager. If there are no errors, try to play the dvd with another program such as windows media player just to try and narrow down the possibilities

make sure its the latest avi player, or why dont u chek out the windows media player, or vlc player, or cyberlink power dvd, or windows media centre, there are loads of softwares u can use to play your dvds

to play dvd films, ensure your laptop has a media-player installed. i.e windows media player 9-10-11 et,c. also you could check in My computer/control Panel/system/device manager to see if there any yellow exclamation marks, next to any devices. if there are. you,ll need to re-install drivers for the device.

• Firstly a UPS is an abbreviation for Uninterrupted Power Supply - meaning emergency backup power in the event of a mains power failure. This is not a type of PC.
  
• Secondly - Windows media player does not support every type of movie format, as Microsoft Update it from time to time, some formats will still not be supported, these are known as codecs.
• Thirdly, codecs to support your particular format can usually be downloaded and added to Windows Media Player, however i can not think of any reason .wmv files are not supported by Windows Media Player.

You could try re-downloading the latest version of Windows Media Player from one of the links provided below.
WMP 11 will support the latest codecs, but if for some reason you find yourself needing the older version, use WMP 10.

You will most likely have to remove your current version of WMP, and you can do this by using Windows Add/Remove programs.

1. Click on the Start menu button ( bottom left corner of your screen. )
   
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Click on Add or Remove Programs.
4. Click on Windows Media Player in the list.
5. Click Remove ( right hand side of the listing )
