If you do indeed have (good)fuel and spark to cylinder, I suggest you remove muffler and clean the internal screen/mesh and carefully scrape off carbon around exhaust port. Do not let debris fall inside engine when cleaning.

replace the spark plug, make sure the air filter is clean, make sure it has fresh fuel. if it still wont start. give a shot of carburetor cleaner straight in the carburetor it should start and run for a few seconds. if it does. the carburetor needs to be cleaned. hope this fixes your problem, good luck

Coil, spark plug, or off/on switch is grounded.

Either your fuel line broke and fell off in the tank or your carb is plugged up and needs to be cleaned. The fuel line can be checked by first dumping the fuel out and looking into the tank.
If you see the fuel lines are both intact *(one is long and one is short but both terminate inside the tank) then you probably need to get the carb off and clean it out. Be careful not to use compressed air on the carb as it is delicate. Use a can of carb cleaner only and look into replacing the fuel inlet screen. They come with carb service kits you can buy online for a few bucks.

work a screw driver of similar tool into the ring gap and pry the ring out. You may want to soak it in a carbon disolver solution overnight first.

The unit is running lean. If it is brand new then likely an adjustment will cure the problem. It is against EPA regulations to sell the adjusting tool to the general public so you will need to take it to a shop. Most shops should adjust it for just a few bucks or no charge while you wait.

It has lost compression, I just repaired two that were doing the same thing, Installed a new piston ring in both and they fired up and ran great on the second pull. Also check to be sure the bolts haven't backed out that hold the cylinder jug on to the block, this will cause it to lose compression and not start or run either. A new ring costs $2.00 and can be installed in less than an hour.
