SOURCE: CF Card Error

Well there is a known problem witht eh CF memory design, i hope this is not your problem but it may be. Take your camera into a well lit area or get a small flash light. Open the memory door and peek down inside the camera and look at the pins inside the camera. Are they all uniform? does any look bent or out of place? there should be 2 uniform rows no pins should be missing or out of place. If they are you have a connection problem. This is one of the issues with this memory format and its why they have changed the design to SD. This is common with people who remove the cards alot and use a reader over time the card and the slot becomes warn and its very easy to bend pins because the card isnt sliding in smooth. If this is your problem (a few bent pins) you may have to take it in for service or try and fix it yourself. Ive read about people using a mechanical pencil. Remove the lead and the pin slips right into the top and you can carefuly move it back. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Err CF

Observe the connector inside camera, using a flashlight. If there is a bent pin take the camera to service immediately. Don't turn it on any more as we did in one similar case - creating a short circuit that damaged the camera electronics and voided the warranty.

If no visible problems, remove battery and leave it out overnight.

SOURCE: Err CF then Err 99 - Canon Rebel XT / Hitachi 4GB Mircodrive

Nope, this is not card anymore.

As you know CF is card failure, sometimes this cause to start error 99 , that is lens error , even if there is no problem with the lens.

This happens because the built in software in the camera can get messed up after an error CF.

You fix the problem calling Canon, they will guide through upgrading the firmware in your camera.

First ensure that you are using the camera menu and command to format the new card, and that new cards are properly inserted into the machine.

Call Canon support to get a firmware upgrade.

Hi there, did you check the card itself? SD cards have a locking switch on the side. Move the switch from locked to unlocked. Put it back in the camera and see if that helps.

SOURCE: Unable to format CF card

Try formatting it on your computer...make sure you are formatting "that" drive and not your C drive.

Err 02

Have you tried reformatting the card (full, not quick, format) in your computer? This will require you to have a CF reader, but they're so handy you should have one anyway.

When isert flash card i get err2 sign

According with the manual:

Err 02: There is a problem with the CF card. Do one of the following: Remove and reload the CF card, use another CF card, or format the CF card.

Try formatting the CF card in the camera, if that doesn't work use a card reader to format it in your PC then format it again in the camera. If that doesn't work try a different CF card.

Im getting a Err 002 which means something is wrong with my CF. I have had it for 5 years and no problems until now. I tried to reformat but my camera will not let me into the menu option with the CF in...

I agree the problem is the CF card. I'd like to add that it must have several back to back corrupt files to be refusing formatting. As much as I teach/lecture not to do this I also agree that to save that card place it in a memory card reader and format the card in the computer. Check before hand to see if there are usable pictures and load them to a new file folder before formatting. Once formatting has been completed in the computer check that all pins are in correct and serviceable condition in the card reader slot in the camera before install it back into the camera. Then reformat the CF card in the camera. Each time pictures are downloaded to the computer a CF card should be formatted.
Deleting pictures just causes a huge amount of problems if done repeatedly in favor of formatting.
I'm including some diagrams to show where the formatting mode is located on your camera.
Best of luck

Err CF then Err 99 - Canon Rebel XT / Hitachi 4GB Mircodrive

Not all CF cards are created equally, so yes, it could be your batch of cards. To determine if the error is CF related, and not anything else, try the following steps which are used to diagnose err 99's

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.
