Question about Lionel Cw 80 Transformer

1 Answer

After about 10 months my CW 80 quit. There is no product number on the throttle. The product number on the 80W Powerhouse, Power Supple is MODEL 6-01-4003-000. I read, on here, that there is a blown fuse. Where is it? The throttle is held together with phillips screws. The 18VAC power, supply is held together with tamper proof screws.

Looking at auction pictures, I'm going to say that odds are the fuse is located in the main unit. You can pick up those tamper proof screwdrivers at Harbor Freight pretty cheap. Please make sure that you've properly discharged the unit before attempting any repairs.

My AVR (HK 255) is dying. Looking for a replacement My speakers: Infinity Alpha 40 Frequency Response 45 - 22000 Impedance 8 Ohm Recommended Amplifier Power 10 Watt, 10-150 Sensitivity 91 dB

Yes you can the figure you quoted is MINIMUM power, always go more than the minimum. Just like the freeway there is a minimum speed and a maximum speed, so staying within the 2 ranges of speed you are good.

Lionel Train transformer goes full throttle only

Sounds like the "variable resistor" that allows for a variable speed is either defective, or has become corroded on it's switch contacts. You might get lucky with some electrical contact cleaner spray and spraying it in or around the variable speed switch. Otherwise, I'd just invest in a new transformer.

My cw-80 Lionel transformer has button issues when operating both traditional and tmcc loco. the horn and bell sounds are goofy. and on some of my traditionaltenders the sounds are still on when the...

The CW-80 is not suited for electronic sound systems. The output is non-sinusoidal. When electronic sounds are generated for some locos, the sound will be garbled. Use another power source. The Z1000 MTH power source or similar is recommended as are many other older Lionel standard power xfmrs. For the sound stay on problem with switch off, try putting a fixed load on the tracks ie: An accessory of some kind (lights etc). Usually a fixed electrical load will fix this problem. Overall, I would recommend changing out the power source and save yourself a lot of headache..

Can I use the cw-80 transformer on any Lionel train set from year 1948 to the preasant , thanks George

You should be able to. The Lionel transformers all put out AC power, not DC and many Marx and American Flyer transformers will work too. The real question is total amount of power being drawn and whether or not you have the wattage to match your engine and accessories. With the CW-80 though, it should put out plenty. I run my pre-war 1666E engine pulling a full compliment of metal cars with no problems using a CW-80.

6) If two lights of capacity 80W replaced by 20W, which run for 6 hours per day. What will be energy savings per month (30 days) in KW/hr?

For the 80W bulbs you'll be using 2 x 80 x 6 x 30 = 28800 W/hr = 28.8kW/hr.

For the 20W bulbs, it's 2 x 40 x 6 x 30 = 7200 W/hr =7.2 kW/hr.

The monthly saving is 21.6 kW/hrs, a saving of 75%.

I have a poulan 2150. it will start but will not stay run

Check the muffler for screen plugging. Clean or replace the air cleaner. Check the fuel filter in the tank for plugging. Check the fuel lines for hardening, cracking, or other decomposition. If still mal-functioning, re-kit the carburetor. Basic H and L settings are (from light CW stops) CCW 1-1/2 turns each. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Hold the throttle wide open and turn H CW until the engine speeds up, but still 4-stroking. Correct setting is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Allow the engine to idle, adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly smoothly, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed so that the engine keeps running, but doesn't try to run the chain. Hope this helps.

I own a McCullogh 610 Pro mac chain saw. Why does

Check the muffler to make sure that the spark arrestor screen is not plugged. Make sure the air cleaner is clean and not plugged. Turn both L and H mixture screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out 1-1/2 turns each. Warm up the engine, then open the throttle and turn the H needle CW until the engine speeds up, but still '4-stroking' but should immediately start '2-stroking' with light cutting. Release the throttle and adjust the L needle CW for fairly smooth idle, yet rich enough to allow the engine to 'follow the throttle' immediately when accelerated. Adjust idle speed CW until the chain starts to turn, then back off until it quits turning. Make sure the chain is being properly oiled and is adjusted for no chain droop, yet turns freely by hand. Hope this helps!
