I have Vista Home Premium (with Service Pack 1) on a HP Pavilion dv6500 Notebook...
my Canoscan Lide25 used to work, now all of a sudden it does not.
I hear it run through the motions of beginning a scan, then get a message that says Code:31,0,0
I've searched for a soultion but can only find solutions to other models of the same scanner. What does this code mean? Is it telling me my scanner driver does not work??
Met same problem. after a lot of trials, finally got rid of the Code 31,0,0 thingy.

1. downloaded the - Driver uninstall utility
-unplugged the usb cable and run the - Driver uninstall utility
<from Drivers>
2. downloaded the - Twain Drivers
-installed the Drivers with usb cable still unplugged
3. plug and scan

There are no available drivers for windows 7 operating system for your scanner. You can download the official windows xp drivers from this link and before run the downloaded file right click on the file and at the compatibility section check the windows xp sp3 compatibility option and hit apply - ok. After this run the file as usual. This procedure will install the drivers is windows xp sp3 compatibility mode.

I ended up buying VueScan and it solves the problem. The scanner works great now. I heartily recommend it so you never have to work with Canon drivers again.
