Only have 2 speeds on a 3 speed ceiling fan- replaced switch, no

My granddaughter pulled the chain on our 3 speed Monte Carlo ceiling fan too hard which broke the 3 speed switch. I replaced the switch which was slightly different than the original. Now the fan has only two speeds, low and high. Two positions of the switch set the low speed, one position sets it to high speed. I've tried switching the wires to correct the problem to no avail. I'm thinking I may have damaged the speed control capacitor when I hooked up the new switch incorrectly. Would it be a good idea to try replacing the speed control capacitor?

Thanks. I rewired switch again (this time with my daughter helping) with the same connection, but this time it worked. I believe I just had loose connection on one of the wires, as the clamp on the switch is not very firm.

The chain came out when i went to turn it off. now i can't start it.

turn power off to fan, and replace the pull chain switch. you can buy a switch at any hardware store. but take old one to get the right one for your fan. sometimes wal-mart may have one. good-day ! maybe the chain just broke. if this is the case, then just replace the chain if need be.MAKE SURE POWER TO FAN IS OFF WHILE CHANGING SWITCH !

The pull chain on my Regency ceiling fan has 4 positions, but the speed doesn't change: it runs on high speed for each of the first 3 positions, and then turns off at position 4.

mcdevito75 here Chances are the switch to change the fan speed is faulty, contact Ellington or see any store that sells ceiling fans for replacement switch if you can get one.

Our fan is going in the reverse direction...how do we switch it?

mcdevito75 here, Generally, The Fan switch itself is a pull chain type switch on the fan motor itself, this is a fan speed switch, NOW! also generally the reverse fan swtich is another shorter pull chain switch just about an inch away from the Fan Speed switch or the longer pull chain switch on the fan motor. This reverse switch can also be a toggle type or slide type switch but will be close to the fan speed switch on the fan motor itself.

How to attach an on/off chain to a ceiling light- the original broke off somewhere inside. The fan switch is intact. This is one unit.

You need the little coupler thing that connects to the ball that makes up the chain. If you dont have the coupler ... you could get one at your local Ace Hardware store ... or you could just purchase a similar switch which would have the coupler on the chain.
