When operating any digital camera, the camera tries to capture the best focus and exposure for that particular scene. By pressing the shutter button half-way down, the focus and exposure is being set. There will be a green circle on the upper left hand corner of the screen, then your camera is ready to take the picture. Slowly depress the shutter the rest of the way down to take the picture.

How do I focus the camera

Usually you can't
The circle if you select that mode either controls where the focus point is (the object that you are focusing on) or the exposure setting (or equivalent for a CCD). Hence if you are taking a picture of a person's face, the circle should appear over their face, and not over the far corner of the room (if you select that mode)
Some devices have the option to hold the focus while you move the aiming point away from it - having done this you may point the camera at the far corner of the room and the person's face will still be in focus but not in the centre of the picture.
This only applies if you are far enough away from the object. In general it not possible to take close up pictures (less than about 100 cm)
You need to read the instruction manual very carefully.

There's something wrong with the focus of my camera. Everytime I take a picture it's blurry and it won't focus unless I zoom in. Is there a way for me to fix it?

ensure finger is not covering auto focus.

ensure camera is not in macro setting. look for icon like a flower this is only for close up shots and will cause bluring if subject is too far away.

check that camera is set in auto focus and not manual focus mode if it has this.

I hope this was helpful.

Nikon S210 pictures always out of focus

Is the lens clean? Are you pressing the shutter button half-way and giving the camera a chance to lock in the focus (it will beep) before pressing the rest of the way? Do you actually move while pressing the button? Try taking a few pics while the camera is on a tripod or a firm surface to eliminate movement.

My Fuji S5100 now fails to properly focus. I have

1 ensure that your camera is not set in Macro mode test by taking a picture of a subject very close up ie. 10 - 15 cm if the image is in focus then you may be set in macro mode.
2 if lens is removeable ensure it is fitted properly. remove the lens and refit ensureing the connectors are clean.
3 ensure the switch on the lens or camera is set to AF for auto focus.
4 suspect autofocus sensor is defective if you try to focus on subjects which are close and far away and you do not hear to camera re-setting the focus then it is in manual focus or the focus sensor may be defective or in need of adjustment.

5 recommend specialist have a look at this problem.

Sigma 28-300 3.5-6.3 won't focus

Did it ever work on this camera?
I have seen some Sigma lenses that are auto focus on canon film cameras but then when put on the digital they dont work right. If you have used it on this camera then make sure the lens is clean.sometimes dirt on the front wil make it try focusing on the dirt. Next try focusing in manual focus to make sure the focus is working. Then take the lens off and then put it back on and make sure it clicks into place.

Let me know if none of those things work. also make sure to try focus on something close and somthing far away.

let me know how it works,
Caleb

D50 After autofocusing stops it still isn't quite in focus.

Your diopter may not be adjusted ( adjustment for sharpness of image in viewfinder on the side of the eye-piece ) so set that first and then try again. If this is correct then your camera is focusing accurately ( on the sensor ) but only the image in viewfinder looks unsharp.
