The TV turns on with volumn. The screen shows double images separated by about 3 inches. The top image is closed to normal but it accented in the color green. If therer is writing associated with this image it is mainly green in color. The second image which appears just below the first is the same image only it is mainly red in color. The writing for the second image appears proportionally below the first line of text but is red in color. When the "menu" button is chosen there are two lines for each selection again in green and red.
Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
Here is a quick test....
Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.
Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.
You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.
If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. TDouble Image Red and Green - 2c07611.pngmmon problem.
Solution
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.
It is failure of Convergence Out ICs in your TV and needs to be replaced either ICs or Convergence Board.
Let me know exact model number of your Sony TV to provide you more info.
This sounds like your convergence correction amplifiers have malfunctioned. These Integrated Circuits often burn out after a few years (STK392-110) they can be replaced with a higher version (STK392-150) However it is important to have the biasing circuitry checked to make sure nothing has burnt out as a result of the ICs malfunctioning. If you have a background in electronics you can repair this problem with very little effort, however if you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have your TV serviced by a qualified TV technician.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,

I have the same problem except my images are side by side about 3 inches apart. It was ok when I turned the tv on and then suddenly the picture changed. I have a Hitachi big screen tv about 8 years old.
