This type of problem normally occurs because some virus called ‘PET32.exe’ , or it can also occur due some other virus which disrupt the windows registry.
. Open Start >> Run or press Window Key + r , this will open the run prompt.
2. Type “regedit” ( without quotes )and press Enter.
3. Navigate to key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
4. Double the registry key named Default and set the value to none.
This will restore the normal windows explorer behavior of opening a folder when you double click a folder rather than opening windows search.
If search opens when you double click on any windows drive, then try this
1. Open Start >> Run or press Window key + r
2. Type “regsvr32 /i shell32.dll” ( without quotes )and press Enter
After the command run successfully, you will see a message saying DllRegisterServer and DllInstall in Shell32.dll succeeded.
unable to open my computer drives like C, D.whenever i double click the drive it show open with some programmes.I bought three month before.Begining it open when i double click but now it is not possible
Restart your computer and see if it corrects the problem. The other thing you gotta watch out for is if you have word 2007 documents on your server. Those won't open in 2002 because the file extensions are different. You need to download the converter program from Microsoft to use them.
You should update all you Office 2002 software as well to SP3.
I have seen this several times and it is brought about due to a virus that creates an autorun file (autorun.ini).
In this file when you double click the drive, executes the file and in the autorun file exists any of the following: - Microsoftpowerpoint.exe smss.exe .... or many others.
It is good thing that you have a strong antivirus which seems to have removed the viruses and therefore when the information file is opened, it does not find the executables it was supposed to run. That is why it asks for a program to open.
You can prove this by right clicking on the drive to see a shortcut menu and in this menu, the bolded menu will be the action taken when double clicked and the possibility is that you will find Autorun bolded.
To resolve the issue do the following: 1) Open My computer program or windows explorer. 2) Right click on the drive and open or explore it. 3) Locate the file Autorun and delete it. If the file is not shown, from the folder options choose show all files. This is because sometimes this file may be hidden.
Try double clicking the drives again to see if you get he same error.
NOTE: Many virus developers have made possible for people to install/run viruses in there own computers by simply double clicking the drives like flash disk.
