I don't know about Windows 7, but I'm using my Astra 4600 on Windows Vista.
Umax said on its website that the Astra series of scanners are not supported for Windows Vista/7. I suppose this is to get us to buy new scanners...
I searched all around the internet for my driver, but couldn't get one. Finally I tried one more time using the CD that came with my scanner. Of course it doesn't work if you run Setup.exe from the CD --- it will just tell you that the OS is not supported. So I went to Device Manager and deleted the scanner under the "unknown USB device" section, and unplugged the scanner.
When I replugged the scanner, I let Vista install the driver automatically. Of course it couldn't, as Microsoft doesn't support it either. Then the install wizard asked me to put in the CD that came with the scanner. And that did the job! Vista was able to ignore the fact that the driver wasn't written specifically for Vista, and the scanner is working!
First connect your scanner to computer with usb cable. Then insert disk in rom then install driver and software from disk. It is not matter that first you connect scanner or install driver but if you connect scanner first your computer recognized it then you can install driver from disk. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Cant find such a scanner, are you sure of the model "performance", If it is not Vista compatable, ie if Epson have not released a Vista driver, then it is not going to work with Vista.
See Epson web and download driver if available, if not change scanner or operating system or purchase software
Check your Epson product CD to see if it already contains Windows Vista drivers. If the CD indicates support for Windows Vista, follow the instructions that came with your Epson product to install your driver and other software.
If your Epson CD does not indicate support for Windows Vista, DO NOT INSERT YOUR EPSON PRODUCT SOFTWARE CD IN YOUR WINDOWS VISTA COMPUTER because the setup program is not compatible with Windows Vista. Instructions for installing additional software from your CD may be available with your driver download.
Note: If you already have ArcSoft PhotoImpression™ 5 installed on your Windows Vista computer, you may need to install a "patch" program. Go to the ArcSoft website to download and install the patch.
Products that are not Vista compatable are not capatable with Vista, who would figure hey!!

go to UMAX 4100 scanner installation CD that comes with the scanner and find the setup.exe file and on it clik left mouse and then right mouse and choose properties and then choose "Install in WinXP-Sp2 compaitibility mode" ...Thats its . Then it will install in Visa and will work perfectly. Only when you startup the Vista it gives you some error message "incompitable Os" etc ..just cancells the message ..and your Umax 4100 Scanner will work perfectly.
Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not released a driver for that scanner to work with Vista. That scanner will only work with Windows XP / 2000 / Me / 98SE. The following link shows the list of scanners that Visioneer is making Vista drivers for: http://support.visioneer.com/products/Tools/OS/vista.asp
