Cannot launch my Norton 360 to perform scan

first of all uninstall norton it uses up memory and connection speed & uses up alot of resources & hard drive space...so get rid of norton...

This can be resolved by installing and scanning the computer using Norton 360.

After downloading Norton 360 double click on the installation file and follow on screen instruction to install the file.
Click on skip if it ask for product key.
After installing Norton 360 open Norton 360 and click on live Update to download latest virus definition on to your computer. This will helps norton to find and heal the up to date virus.

After running live update perform complete system scan using Norton.

Note:

• Uninstall existing Antivirus on your computer before installing Norton 360.
• Your system performance will be little low for about 7 to 10 days after installing Norton, after this period it will become Normal.
• This is trial version which will provide you 30 days validity but even 1 year subscription does the same task. You can install whatever antivirus if you wish to switch over.

There are 2 solutions to this problem. 1. Formatting of your laptop. as a result of formatting your laptop, you may loose valuable informations as well as programs. 2. Downloading a Norton 360 antivirus program into your laptop. after download, you can scan and fix viruses. this will work perfectly well. If your computer doesnt allows you to perform a download, simply download from another computer into an external device such as a USB device and transfer the Norton 360 setup flies to your laptop and run it. after installation process, scan for viruses and fix. The easiest way, open your CD drive and with that open shut down your computer. Insert the Disk in the drive and close it then restart the computer. The installation program should start auto automatically as windows starts. The reason I said to shut down then reboot with the disk in the drive is to allow the program to scan your system before windows starts to speed up the install process. If you insert the Disk and close the drive while the computer is on it will auto start and scan the system anyway but it takes longer. Make sure you stop and uninstall any other anti virus programs or Anti Adware programs, such as Spy Bot, you may have running, the Adware programs only need to be closed.

1. Uninstall any third party security softwares. 2. Download and Run Norton Removal Tool. 3. Do a fresh Install of Norton 360. 4. Run a full System Scan in Safe Mode. 5. Check the Norton 360 in Normal Mode.

Boot up the PC in safe mode. How? Well when you start the PC press F8 before the windows start loading. A menu will open up. On top or there so you will find safe mode. Select it and boot. On booting in safe mode you will be warned that your PC is running in safe mode. Done? Now start control panel and then Add Remove Programs. Once that window is populated with all the progs that are installed on your PC, select Norton V3 and uninstall it. Uninstall V2 as well. Restart the PC in normal mode. Now install V3 and compute happily.

Did you try START> Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features > Locate Norton 360 and uninstall from there?

I had same problem. I went to Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore. I picked date before which Norton 360 was installed. It got my internet connection back. I'm not even going to try Norton anymore. Time better spent trying to get my money back.

I have come across this problem on a norton 360 antivirus solution before. It would also get pretty complicated if you're using vista. However, one of the first things you should do when using any antivirus is to tell the windows OS (be it vista or XP), that your anti virus is taking over the firewall + antivirus activities of the computer. So, what you might wanna do is:

1. Launch norton 360 and check to see if your outbond traffic is being blocked. Your outbound traffic to connect to the server should NOT be blocked and sometimes in 360, it is blocked by defualt.

2. Go to the control panel. Under security, define norton 360 as your firewall and anti virus. If you can afford it, disable windows firewall (since norton 360 is taking care of that problem).

3. After these settings, restart computer (for any process changes to take effect) and try to connect and see.

Hope the above suggestions help. Also, when defining your whitelist (a list of programs that are allowed to traffic in and out through your firewall), try to allow as much as programs possible (those that you deem important enough(, to prevent such an incident like this from ever happening again. Or you could take the route that i took... get bitdefender. Less complicated and more advanced security options. Norton 360 is good too, but for my personal computer, i;d stick with bitdefender any day. Hope the above helps. Let me know if the suggestions work out, else i can instruct in more detail. Thanks.
