I have checked spark, it is good. replaced rubber lines to fuel pump, replaced fuel pickup in gas tank. When trying to start this morning cold, I chocked it it fired a little, went to half choke never fired after that, I removed the plugs, they appeared wet, so i dried them, also hand cranked with plugs out a little, put plugs back in, manual pulled and it started real slow. warmed it up some, then rode it. it runs great. If it is off and allow engine to get cold, it will be hard to start. Where should i look next ?

Wait, it just wont turn over, like the engine won't rotate?, that is either a broken crank, which not unusual for those 500's or you seized it, (welded the piston to the jugs). if this isn't what you mean, and it will turn over but not on its own power, then either your jets in the carbs are clogged, fuel may get to it, but not through it, or your rings are stuck closed and giving you low compression, check this by pulling it over slowly, you should feel each piston completing the revolution with a prominent glug glug. grab your primary clutch and rotate it back and forth, it should have a bit of play, but if it clanks and has alot of play, your crank is busted

SOURCE: polaris classic 1997 500 when

Easiest first, put dry gas in and run it if that don't work, try draining gas, take tank off, drain carbs. You may have water in tank. If not next best thing is try changing the coil. If it backfires it is electrical.

that sounds like your clock. engine codes don't go that high.and if it was your clock you must of lost 12 volt power at some point.

I tried starting my 89 Polaris Indy 500 it's

worn out engine, not creating enough suction. Does it run fine once warmed up? Mine does, but getting it started that first time is a real problem. I'm looking at a rebuild and I don't think it's worth it. Might be time to retire the ole girl.
