Creative Zen Rebuilding Problem (Freezing)

Okay, so a little while ago I decided to charge my Creative Zen and plugged it into my computer. I left for a few minutes. When I came back I noticed that the computer didn't recognize the device yet, so I looked at it and it said "rebuilding". I waited for twenty minutes and it was still at the same progess as before. I even poked a pin into the reset hole in the device and it turned off. But when I turned it back on it went right back to the "rebuilding" screen and was at the same, frozen progess as before. So now I have my Zen unplugged from the computer and letting it just sit on the table, and it's STILL not doing anything, it won't even turn off if I try to. Help?

If it is the nature of ZEN then why does ZEN not issue a fix for it? I am frustrated - I can't use it for which I bought it and it is frozen.

Hold the reset button with a paper clip AND the play button at the same time while flipping the power switch. The ZEN should go into recovery mode. You probably want to do format all but you can try the different options. You also may need to download/update the firmware here.

After formatting the player, download the firmware from the creative website and with the player connected to the computer, install the firmware "ZNCB_PCApp64_LA_6_70_16.exe". Allow the installation to complete even if the app notes that the firmware is the same that's on the player. This solved my problem.

If the rebuilding screen is still coming on, try leaving plugged in for a few days see if it finally stops.

SOURCE: my creative media player stock to rebuilding

First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

Zen player mosaic crashes re-building library (uses flash memory)

I've been having the exact same problem. No matter how often I reset it it still becomes stuck on the rebuilding screen. I was thinking I may just copy all of my music onto my computer and then do a complete reset on my Zen and copy it back but I don't want to go to all that trouble if there is an easier way to fix it.

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi

Creatve Zen freezing at rebuilding

Try using a different computer or a different USB cable. It is possible that the Windows mass storage driver is having issues. You may also want to try to download the newest software from Creative and install that. You may also want to try to plug it in and then press the reset button and see if it detects it when it restarts.
Also try putting an SD card into the expansion slot and see if it detects it as as mass storage device.
If none of the above work and it is still under warranty (less than 90 days) I would send it to Creative for repair or replacement. If it is out of warranty, Creative's repair costs may not make it worth fixing. When my out of warranty player needed fixed they were going to charge 125 USD and I only paid 200 USD for it about a year earlier. When it finally got to be too hard to deal with I opted for an iPod. Granted they are more expensive but the support is better and the warranty is 1 year.

Cheers and best wishes.

Zen mp3 problem

Reset the player it is a little whole small so small you can only reset it with a pin. every creative mp3 player has one most the time they say reset next to the hole but it is possable not to have the reset print on the player. once you reset it plug it in so it charges and then turn it on. it will say something along the lines of rebuilding after you reset it oh and when you are resetting it hold the pin in it for a cupple seconds.
