May be the backlight inverter power supply. These supply power at an elevated voltage to run the backlight ccf tubes. They are similar to a flourescent bulb and require a high voltage to operate...thing is the components involved tend to weaken over time due to the high voltage stress and elevated temperatures. When you leave the set off for some time the components will tend to sort or recover until they heatup again and the wala..out goes the backlight. My experience with these sets is that the filter capacitors inside tend to dry up and cause this type of failure. They are not expensive parts but you need to either take it in to have it fixed, which results in labor fees. Or, if you know something about repairing electronics, you could tackle it yourself...If you want to try to repair the set yourself, you will need to locate the hv power supply and look for the filter capacitors that are for the inverter. Usually they are rated 10-47uF at 450V. Once you locate them, it has been my experience that you need to change ALL of them to give a reliable repair. Make sure they are the same type and rating and also be sure to use high temp 105deg. C electrolytic capacitors. If you have any questions email at

I am looking for the service manual for the warfedale Model: DVD-780P.
