The only thing I can think of is there should be a jumper pin that on the mother board that resets the cmos. Unplugging the battery does not clear the cmos rom. My guess would be the cmos rom is currupted and unfortunatly you need the rom loaded before you can flash and replace it. My advice is ditch it.

SOURCE: my dell optiplex gx200 bios can't boot

maybe try taking out the cmos battery located in your case, looks like a small watch battery, that will clear bios settings and start from scratch, if there is no battery then there is a jumper sequence to do this

No boot device available dell optiplex 170l series

Go to the bios to verify that the computer is recognizing the hard drive and that the hard drive is is listed in the boot sequence. If this is all good your hard drive may have been formatted or erased or the boot record is corrupt and unreadable to the bios. I had a similar problem. reloaded windows and all was good.

How can I clean the hard disc & re-install windows on my Dell Optiplex 170L computer?

Put the windows cd in the cd drive. Restart your computer while pressin Del or F2 to go to the system BIOS and go to Advanced BIOS settings and go to boot order or boot sequence, select Cd/Dvd to be the 1st device on the list. Hit F10 to exit. Your computer will restart and boot from the cd. On the first screen, just press enter. Then F8 to accept license agreement. Then you will press esc. Select the partition that you want to clean up! Select the first option (quick NTFS), then press F to start formating! Wait and follow the instructions on the screen.

How can I use External USB DVD rom for Boot to dell optiplex GX260 series.

You have to change the boot settings in bios (hit F2 as you see the Dell Logo) and in the boot menu look for one that says boot from USB, or external CD drive, and move it to the top of the list so it will boot before the hard drive does.

How to boot from a USB CD/DVD ROM MY System is Dell Optiplex 170L Thanking in advance

If you want to boot from a external cd/dvd rom here's what to do.
  1. Connect your USB CD/DVD ROM to your computer.
  2. After connecting, you must start from boot up. so Reboot your computer.
  3. You must go to your bios settings, so during boot, press DELETE or if it doesn't work reboot again and try F2.
  4. Now once on the bios settings, search for the boot device, or boot priority.
  5. You must make your USB CD/DVD ROM as First boot, or just place it at the top of the list.
  6. You can adjust the position by pressing (-)minus and (+)plus signs in your keyboard.
  7. Now once the USB CD/DVD ROM is at the top. press F10 to save the changes and click Yes.
  8. And that's it. Your PC will now boot from the USB CD/DVD ROM.
Goodluck, Hope my solution will help, Please give some feedback regarding my solution.

Thank you very much for using Fixya! Have a Great Day!
