Pioneer SDT50W1 rear projection TV clicks off when switched on.

I have A Pioneer SDT50W1 rear projection TV which is about 11 years old. It is in A1 condition but recently I have had a problem when turning on the set. When I press the on off switch on the front of the set it clicks on with a green light showing but then immediately clicks off showing a red light as if going into standby mode. ( I have tried then turning the set on from the remote handset but nothing happens). The set only does this on some occassions. I had the set on for most of the day a week ago turning on and off through the day. The next morning tried to turn on the set but immediately clicked off. Tried several times that day but same response. After leaving a few days TV all ok again. This has been happening over the last 3 month or so. Any ideas? it's driving me mad.

I have had the same thing happening with my tv for over a year now. Today it won't turn on at all. I removed the rear cover to expose the electronics and I can hear a clicking noise when I power it on. I checked a couple of fuses and they're good. The ticking noise will not quit and the tv still won't turn on. Any ideas anyone?

Exactly the same problem.  I saw here in another thread that it is a fuse problem.  Is that true?

Is there a schematic showing the correct fuse?

I have the same problem. It just started yesterday. I found a fuse blown in the back. A 4-amp 125W I bought at Radio Shack. Problem is still there. If anyone has any ideas, I am open to some help.

I have the same problem going on with my T.V. so I take off the lower back panel on the t.v. and replace the blowen fuse then it works fine again for awhile then turns green on that screen then turns its self off and wont turn back on unless i change out the fuse again. I am tired of changen out the fuse all the time and just want 2 know why it keeps on blowing that fuse.

I too have this TV. I did have that problem a while back. It had me stumped. finally, I unplugged the TV and installed a voltage regulating power strip and it has not happened since. I suspect power fluctuations or spikes were causing the problems, on this OLD but great TV.

Hey dudes...even i hav had the same problem that too with the same model specified here..Its a problem actually concerned with the power circuit boards of the tv. Its best to get it checked by an authorized technician. For me I had to replace a transistor on one of the boards. But after that my tv came up with a new problem....the colours appear like rainbows! Could nyone xplain y dis is happening?

TV has stopped working. The bulbs do not light up. The TV is 13 years old. Shall I throw it out? Thanks

Before you decide to throw it out have you tried checking the fuse at the back of the TV?
Could be only a blown fuse that's causing your tv not to switch on.
Good luck.

The most likey cause of this is poor solder connections either in the power suply area or the convergence circuit area. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside the set where there are potetially dangerous high voltages (even when unplugged), you maight be able to resolve this yourself. Try resoldering any connections on the boards that appear grainy or have rings. Update this with your results.

since your tv is 6yrs old it could be that the video circuit has cold solder that needs to be resolder if that does not work then a focus on the video circuit by replacing the component there, it could be an ic or transistors or diode.if you are not a tech get one to look at your set.good luck.for further help email me at [email protected]
