Memory Issues with P5GL - MX

Hello all,

I have a P5GL-MX motherboard and have a 512 DDR400(3) memory on it . I recently purchased a 1Gb DDR400(3) from the same manufacturer Dynet DDR 400(3) 1GX16 and after installing it .. I face some of the following issues :

When I place both the RAM :
- It boots but I do not get any display. I have tried reseating the RAM but it works at times.

When I place only the 1GB RAM :

- It detects the PCI video card and then goes blank

I have tried to swap slots , clean the RAM slot and the RAM but no luck.

Do I have to replace the the 1GB RAM or is not good to put both a 512 and a 1GB RAM together ?

Kindly advice ,

Bobby

Sounds like the 1GB that you have is not compatible with the motherboard. Check your manual.

Some motherboards require that you install the memory in matched pairs. That could explain why they won't work together.

When you put the 1 GB in alone, what slot did you put it in?
I would suggest the blue A1 slot (closest to the CPU).

It may be that you have a bad memory module.
You could try the Windows Memory Diagnostic:

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,
Dan

My i GB DDR2 667 MHZ RAM is showing 512 MB memory. I have updated the latest BIOS information from ASUS Site.

You should test the memory in another computer to see if it's recognized correctly.

You should also see if your motherboard will read another brand that 1gb in size.

Do I need to buy 2 DDR2 Ram for my ASUS P5VDC-MX Motherboard?

with rams, if the memory it has is higher than that of your cpu, the pc will not boot up or if it is too low compared to your cpu again.

thus, you say it has got two slots right, remove both of the 512's and insert the 1gig only, run your computer, i am sure it will boot up nicely. switch it off. put one 512, if it does not boot then you should know that your ram has an excess of memory that your cpu could not apprehend to.

post a coment if this does not work.

thanks,

I have an asus k8v-mx motherboard running only 512 mb of ram what type of ram would suit this mother board and could i fit a 1 x 2mb ram instead of 2 x 1mb?

Dear Sir,

*********** board is Asus old p4 Mother board. It supports maximum 1GB RAM of DDR 400(DDR1). According to your post your computer having only one 512 MB working RAM. If you want good purformance you can upgrade your computer by purchasing another 512MB DDR400 RAM and install it on another RAM slot.If your computer have only one working RAM slot, you can purchase 1GB DDR400 RAM & install it on older RAM place. I think it solves your problem.if you have any problem come back with more information. I will try to assist you more accurately.

Upgraded Dell Dimension 3100 memory to 2 Gigs - Windows XP fails

Did you add the two sticks with the 512 or remove the 512 and add the two 1gb sticks? Try booting the machine with ONLY the 1gb sticks in.

Your machine supports 1gb modules but they can't be higher than 533MHz. Check that the memory you purchased was either PC3200 (400MHz) or PC4200 (533MHz) and is 1.8v. If you post the part number off of one of the modules I can look it up for you.

Its about the memory card

The board supports upto 4 GB RAM. PC3200 RAM is supported.

1. Reset CMOS settings by CMOS jumper.

2. Try updating BIOS of your motherboard from :
