Sharp MD MS 702 shows sound is being recorded but on playback shows blank disc, what could be the problem?

  • Anonymous Feb 11, 2013

Comment from rickers regarding non recording on the Sharp mini disk. The unit generally is of good quality and reliabilitty. Playback sound of pre-recoeded and self recorded (On a Sony mini disk) are exceptional quality. My Sony Mini disk works well but play back of sound recorede from vinyl has hiss. The Sharp unit is almost flawless in playback. When recording on a new disk on the Sharp, indicators in the window show the REC sign and the sound level meter is active, All indicators suggest the recording is taking place, but on playback there is no sound and the indicator window show BLANK DISK. Every instruction for recording has been checked and followed. I am stumped and the live person at Sharp has no idea and advises I go to a dealer,

That does not sound good. Being optimistic, though, what happens if you record something and then finalize it? Will it play then?
Will it play a previously recorded MD?

SOURCE: MD Error Message

I'm sorry this isn't much help, but I had the same problem with my 702 unit. From what I've read it's very common with this model - Sharp claims to have remedied the error with their 831 unit. Luckily, when I had this problem, my recorder was still under warranty and I have to say that Sharp fixed it promptly and returned it to me. Have you tried contacting them? Since it's a design flaw, they might be amenable to working something out with you...

SOURCE: sharp MD MT-80H(S) not playing sony minidisc 80

I had a similar problem after not using player for several months - "Can't read" message displayed every time I put a recorded minidisc in the player. Seem to have solved it (maybe only temporarily) by opening the player, inserting little finger in at the righthand front and sliding movable mechanism from side to side. It looks to slide on a bar which had maybe picked up dirt or damp. Also tried blowing a warm hairdryer into the slot for a minute or two (take disc out first!) to remove any damp. Working OK at the moment.

What does utoc error mean on a Kenwood mini disc player

Well, what it means is

TOC errors often mean the recording head/optical block is cooked. A cleaner might work, but often it's the end of the MDR.

Are you sure the battery is correctly (fully) charged? Try removing the battery and running on (only) the charger.

try cleaning the lens with a minidisc lens cleaner.

open the unit and check the laser position - it should be all the way to the left. that's where it should start to read the disk.

Recorded mini discs no sound on playback

They should both have the same standard format, but my best guess is you may have recorded one MD in one of the sony longer formats which the Tecnics can't read. The normal MD Decks may not have the old sony extended paly format and even some of the Sony high end decks don't have all of the formats. Sony tried several says to give more recording timje on a disc before migrating to the HiMN standard as an example.

Sharp MD-MS702 Minidisc recorder - no audio from 3.5 mm output jack...

the solution which seems to have worked for most people is to take the unit apart and make sure that the ribbon cables inside the unit are all attached properly.
