I have a lumix DMC-FZ30 - When the camera is turned on the screen is black - yes i have removed the lens cap. The settings are there but unable to take any pictures. Any suggestions please?????
Hello,
I understand that you've tried all the obvious tricks like resetting to factory settings etc.
Sounds like a CCD/shutter failure I'm afraid. FZ30 are not known for failing CCDs, but I've seen shutters fail on various lumix-es, so in this case I would suggest replacing the shutter. To be precise, replacing the shutter itself is a massive pain in the **** on this camera. It's much easier to replace the whole lens-it contains the shutter. You'll need to get a donor camera (ebay ;) and do the transplant. Swapping the lens is relatively easy if you're ok with midly fiddly things. Oh, and make sure you take notes which screws go where when dismantling the camera - and be careful with ribbon cables for the LCD.
Good luck,
Raf
Check if you have activated the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). Press the EVF/LCD button to switch to the LCD screen. If this fails to solve the problem, change the mode dial to Auto (the red camera icon) or 'P' and try again. If even this does not work, check with the nearest authorized service center.

So it won't take a picture if you try?
If that's the case, it sounds like the CMOS or CCD sensor is damaged/broken. Not much you can do about that. It's too expensive to repair.
The menu's don't rely on the CCD to make a picture, but the LCD will only show what the CCD "sees".. if it see's nothing, it sounds dead.
