Agere Win Modem Driver Version 8.30.0.0 vs V.92

I am looking for a new ISP for my dialup internet and the site l found says that a V.92 modem will increase my inernet speed.
My computer is a 2004 HP A420N with Windows XP. I have a Agere Win Modem driver version 8.30.0.0.
I am computer illiterate so bear with me.
1. Will the V.92 really help to speed things up?
2. Can l download a free update from the internet or do l have to buy a new modem?

You have a v.92 modem even if it lists as v 90 just run a windows update,, look for hardware updates, , if none comes up for the modem you should be good .

the last update was to 8.30 for v92. .. v90 etc. . it wont make that much of a difference in speed. .. however

A phone line filter WILL make an amazing difference, having worked for a dial up isp before , trust me , they help alot. .. its worth 12-22 dollars from any radio shack or maybe even walmart.. . i've seen them in home depot as well but don't spend more than 25 dollars. .

"phone line filter" look for it on radio shacks website

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103593&numProdsPerPage=60&retainProdsInSession=1

the picture is accurate.. not sure of the description, that thing is not for two lines.. its a a single male end --- to --- female end filter no bigger than a permanent marker. .

good luck. . oh.. it should increase performance from say 34k to 48/56k orn your modem. .

good luck. . its the next best thing to having new lines put in... to your house.

or usb broadband from cricket.

as long as your logged on as administrator then updating your device should be straight forward,

so plug in your card
start up your computer
the wizard should pick up the new device and autoinstall it
then update your drivers for the device or download the drivers from the manufactuerers web site
check your model and make of device

Trying to connect to dialup with acer laptop notebook

Right click My Computer icon and then My Properties. Click on the Devices tab and check hhe list for Modems. See if your modem appears and if is correctly installed (an exclamation point beside iyour modem, means there is an instalation error).

If everything is OK, you still have to setup the dialup connection:enter the phone number to connect , the username and password, supplied by your ISP provider.

Missing modem

what is XE3 circa 2002, 15 years young. wow.

XP is now 3 years dead, at microsoft.
why not at least upgrade to Win7. be wise to do that.
XP must have SP3, if not it will fail, and even with it it fail.
lots of USB devices for example will fail. here.
dial up, you dont run DSL.
ive not see dial up in 20 years. why dial up.?

if compelled to use dial up, you need a modem that XP understands
most of them it does not. nor will it ever,
there are 2 classes of modem. (DIAL up to POTS)
1: software modem (99% software, and a box) they SUX. all do.
2: hardware modem, best is USB. by
and A good dial up program,. windows dial up software stinks.

i see this is HP supported (was) modem
Agere systems soft PCI
it needs the HP.com driver to run that modem
does the number you dial buy hand (using a POTS phone)
dial up and answer and squeal? if not its hopeless that number
you need to pay for superscription service, and with a pass word.
LIKE HERE
http://www.earthlink.net/dialup/

THE PROBLEM IS HP NO LONGER SUPPORTS YOUR PC
SO THERE ARE NO DRIVERS. now.

why not get 10 year or newer PC, or get DSL to home
or cable modem with only 1 channel active, (slow like dialup)
for cheap. (im using 16channel now, as i type)

or buy a new modem and connect it and use the new modems
disk to install a nice dialer for you.
but finding one is not easy now.

the best modems, are Hayes, there hardware modems are like rock. i used them back in the ARPnet days and on amocat.
