If you are referring to what I think you are referring to, it's called a P4 connector, and is from the Molex family. I have attached a picture of the connector. The black wires are ground (0V) and the yellow wires are +12V.
There's often one from the PSU which you plug into the socket on your m/b. It's for (mostly) supplying power to the CPU. what is the 4 wire square chuck on the motherboard - fc47f9e7-c9b2-4a76-b78b-78023abe79ff.jpg

I also attach a couple of pictures of the corresponding socket on the m/b. On one the socket is at the edge of the m/b; on my m/b this socket is near the middle. If you had given details of the model of your computer there is a chance that pictures of its m/b showing this socket would be on the HP website.

SOURCE: front panel wiring

Hi, Maybe we can wing it if you can send an image of the motherboard closeup on the F_PANEL connections and the wires from the front panel itself, or get the specific motherboard model during POST so we can try getting URL of manual. In some instances, the front panel wires are: Green wire, power on green light +, white wire is power on green light -; Red & Black, speaker; Red & white - HDD red activity light indicator where red is HDD + & white is HDD -; Orange & white - Reset Black & White - power on Post back so we can figure things out. Good luck and kind regards.

SOURCE: wiring a P4M80-M4 mother board

You can download the manual for the motherboard here, just click on the "manual" link:

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/mb/driver.php?S_ID=246

This will list the front panel connections, which are 2 pins. Each of the jumpers, what you are calling clips, will connect two of the pins. Most cases have the jumpers labeled, i.e. power, reset, etc. But if they are not, it is usually: red/white = HDD led; green/white = power led; red/black = speaker; black/green = power switch; and black/white = reset. But your case may use a different wiring spec, but should list somewhere which wire is for which function.

SOURCE: emachine t1840 wiring diagram power switch wire to mother board ?

Because there are so many different case and motherboard combinations sometimes it can be difficult following the instructions for connecting the front panel, USB header and audio header.

Below is a few generic guide that should stop some of the confusion with the labels on the wires.

frontpanelsetup.jpg

usbheadersetup.jpg

Front Panel Audio

***Please note this is a generic wiring guide and we can not guarantee it will work with every motherboard. Please check your motherboard manual first. Wiring the headers wrong can cause damage to the motherboard and case, this damage is not covered by the warranty***

another handy USB wiring guide can be found here http://www.directron.com/installusb.html

this maybe easier to follow

Can some tell me the details of four wires connected to DV12038B48H server Fan?

four wire fans almost always have the same connections. There should be a black wire on the connector at one end. This the 0V The next one is called 'sense' and is a signal giving the fan speed. The third one, often with a red wire, is the +V line (?48V in this case I think). The fourth one controls the fan speed and carries a signal from the computer to the fan causes it rotate at a given speed.
ok in the pictures of this fan I have found the wires are not the same colours as I have mentioned above. I think the ordering is the same though - but I am less certain now. blue is speed sense, yellow is +48V red is speed control ??. You can check this by (carefully !) measuring the voltage between black and yellow wires; if it 48V then my pin assignments are more than likely correct. Or if you have your motherboard manual the pin assignment for the fan's connector should be in that.
The reason for this pin assignment is so that you can use a 4 pin fan (often 12V) with a three pin power connector: the speed control is simply not connected.

When you have messed up wiring your motherboard..

it is easy...

remember this your motherboard is like a children play house red for red, square for square.. if it is not compatible for the socket it will never be placed well..

you need to connect the following..

first your main power supply to your motherboard

it is very easy to see.. it is a group of maybe 16 wires in a plastic connector..you will connect it to your motherboard..

your processor power is a four wired in plastic connector but it is square in shape..

note: take a good look in each connector they have squares cirlce, etc shapes in each wires so don't force it to connect if it is hard to it means it is not for that socket..

this is the turning point..

your power button, reset button, pw LED, HDD LED,

maybe you know where it is placed,
but note the sequence.. pw button, reset, pw led,hdd led,

if not you can try to short the pins of *********** board so that you will know where the power button will be placed...

your usb and internal speaker has their own pins....

note: take a good look to your motherboard before you connect it, it may cause you some trouble..

take a look at the + ,- signs that is encrypted in the motherboard...

you have to the red wire is fore the posite and the black is negative..

i know it is compose of four wires but they are in one socket right...

your hdd connect it i know you know that how..

that's all..

Need to know what the four wires are for, red black yellow and blue, I am wiring it to and ancient apple, no choice. just need to know how to set it up at hi speed constant operation. I am using a rf-120...

Usually the red is +12 volts DC, the black is ground, the yellow is the tach sensor, and the blue is speed control. The fan will run at full speed off the red and black. The yellow and blue are of no use unless the motherboard is designed to use them.

The power supply came with no manual. There is no P IV power lead. There are two aux power leads. (1) four wire (O,B,R,Y) and (1) six wire lead (B,Y,B,Y,B,Y) The original power supply P IV lead has four...

As you've noted you need two Black wires (Ground), and two Yellow wires (12 Volt),
for a 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

If you are not using the 6-pin PCI Express power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress

,rob the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable connector, and wires from the old power supply.

Splice the wires of the 6-pin PCI Express to them.

Note:
Orange wires are 3.3 Volt
Red wires are 5 Volt
Yellow wires are 12 Volt
Black wires are Ground wires.

You need two Yellow wires, and two Black wires.

Or if you have a spare 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable from the power supply,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

,buy and use an adapter power cable.
Example,

You should have 4 joined pins and 1 black ground for each usb port.
The red wire is for Pin1
White wire is for Pin2
Green is for Pin3
Then you have the Ground wire (black)
The pins on the motherboard are all numbered.

865 MOTHER BOARD VOLT OUT PU PIN

Hi Dear, well, you can get 1v dc or 1.5v dc from any pc motherboard but I'll never recommend you to do that. You can use Black and Red wire combination to get 5v dc or Black and Yellow wire combination to get 12v dc from motherboard's power supply. 3 LEDs in series can b use for 5v dc input.

Emachines t3882 wont power on

The yellow wire carry 12 volt while the red one is 5 volt. But to check the voltage you have to unplugged all the four wires connectors (yelow, black, black red) and measure them one by one. If you say that they don't have any voltage on them then you have a faulty power supply. Replace it to solve the problem.
But if during unplugged your have the correct voltage read then it could be one of your device faulty. Normally your CD-ROM drive or floppy drive or HDD.
