580ex off camera shuts down after a minute or so of standby

No and no, the flash is by default programed to shut off after 1 minute .If you were using the flash on-camera, the flash would automatically power itself on when camera activity is detected but when the flash is detached, it doesn't wake back up.
To change this you have to turn off the auto shut off in the flash menu:
1. Power the flash on
2. Hold down the back light /C.Fn button until "Fn 00 0" appears on the screen
3. Rotate the selector wheel until you see "Fn 01 0"
4. Press your selector button down so that the 0 begins flashing
5. Rotate your selector wheel to change the 0 to a 1
6. Rotate the selector to the "Fn 14 0" position and set it to 1

7. Press your selector button to save this parameter
8. Press your Mode button to return to the main screen

Now your flash stays on as long as the flash switch is turned on ON, and as long as you have juice in the batteries.

Do not forget to turn off the flash after you are done. You can reverse it anytime, but you have to read the manual for that..

Same setup can be found in the manual

I have a Toshiba DLP Projection TV model # 44N HM84 made in October 2004. When we turn it on the green light blinks about sis or seven times then turns red. The TV doesn't come on. Any ideas? thanks in...

It is an error code. Count the flashes and then re-post asking what the amount of flashes means and how to repair it. Make sure you post make and model of TV.

Connecting a wii to a toshiba tv model no. 28n33b

I was having exactly the same problem with my toshiba 28N33B until 2 minutes ago! I searched the internet for the solution but only came accross your unanswered question, i hope you've sorted it by now anyway as its been 6 months, but for all those with a similar problem:

You cannot connect your wii to AV OUTLETS only INLETS! At first glance it appears that the 28N33B only has outlets....BUT actually, the AV inlets are (stupidly) hidden behind the speaker to the right of the TV screen (as if you were looking at the screen) - they are separate from all the other ports at the back of the tv.

For anyone looking for Toshiba inlets on other models - my advice would be to take a deep breath, push the telly out from the wall and take a GOOD long look all over the tv for three circular ports coloured red, white and yellow that have the words 'in' or 'inlet' etc printed near to them. You're wasting your time trying to connect the wii via the audio output, it just wont work, no matter how much you re-tune the tv (I know from experience! grr!)

Right, i'm off to play mariokart, hope this helps somebody!

Our sony tv keeps turning itself on stand by. you press the standby button on the remote and it comes back on for a few minutes then does the same again until it will not turn back on. you have to then...

When the Sony shuts down, the standby light shoulb be blinking a repeated count. Can you please post the model number and that count? The count will indicate the circuit that had a problem causing the set to shutdown.

Thanks,

V-chip code forgotten

I found this to work on my Toshiba TV/VHS combo MV19M4 after trying others suggestions that had worked on similar models but nothing worked on mine. Maybe it will work for yours. Follow these steps:

1: Unplug the TV for 1 minute then plug it back in.
2: In the menu select "TV Set Up".
3: Move the blinking block to beside "V-CHIP Set" BUT DO NOT SELECT IT.
4: Hold in the number 1 button on the remote.
5: Hold in the volume down button on the TV.

Your TV will turn off. Give it a few seconds to reset itself and then turn it back on and you will have to completely reprogram your settings. When you go to the V-CHIP settings it will ask for your new code.
