Disc spins very fast but program won't start

When I insert a disc the drive spins at a very fast rate (real fast!) but the system won't or can't read the disc. It just continues to spin. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem. Thanks for any help. This is an Xbox 360 purchased 07/2008.

Yeah this is a comon problem with the laser dying on the xbox 360 your best bet is to call this number and get them to change it free of charge 0800 587 1102 it will take around a week to sort but you will have no money to pay and it will be returned fixed

PS3 Optical Drive Failure.
Have you had your Ps3 drive tell you its just will not read?

Here are some major causes:

1. Dirty drive.
2. Motor not spinning the disc fast enough.
3. Bad optical laser.

Step 1

Listen for the drive does it spin up?
Listen for the read head.
Put a audio disc in does it play?

If a audio disc plays but not dvd,blueray, or game disc you got a bad laser.

I recommend you do the following:

1. Make sure you match up you serial number on your unit.
2. Purchase the whole kit not just the laser.

The kit looks like this:

My CD player keeps displaying no disk and wont play the cleaner disc, is something dirty or broken?
Hello
If it does not play the cleaner disc, just inspect whether the disc inserted in spins inside it. You can check this by open the upper cover of the player, and inserting a disc into it. If inserted disc spins inside, and the player won't read it, the fault is with its laser pickup unit, and it should be replaced with same type and number.
If the disc dos not spins, the fault is with the sled motor [the motor that spins the inserted disc], has damaged, and should be replaced. OK.

The most likely situation you have here is that the cd drive lens isn't reading, just because with a gamecube, it relies on that lens to detect if there is a disc inserted. Your best bet is to try and clean the lens with a que tip and some rubbing alcohol. Be gentle, only very gentle wipes back and forth in a circular motion, then dry it the same way. If that doesn't work, I can give you some tips on how to rip the thing apart and see if it is a connection inside somewhere

I purchased chessmaster 10th edition and installed to computer when i hit the play button for startup it asks to insert disc 1 i would like to know why this is required when the program is installed ...
i am sorry to give u bad news, game CM is game that need disc to run the game because a lot of stuff that still need to run the program left behind in the disc. it was factory setting.

But u can use alternative way by make the disc to image then run it with daemon tool.
first u need program that can make image file like .iso, .nrg, etc. ( i use nero)
make an image file from CD 1 and CD 2 and save it in computer.
second install program that can make image drive to run image disc (i use daemon tool).
make one image drive then mount the image disc to the drive.
now u can play without real disc. (after finished play the game unmount the image disc)

I put in a blank cd and I cannot burn it because in my computer it shows that there is no cd inserted

CD-read and DVD-read issues can be caused by many sources. Perform the procedures presented in this General Computer Advice article when troubleshooting CD-read and DVD-read issues.

Begin with the first procedure and continue through the list. Try using the CD or DVD after each procedure is completed. For any procedure that requires changing current system settings, record the original settings before completing the procedure.
  1. Verify that the correct disc (CD/DVD) is used when prompted to insert the disc.
  2. For programs on DVD, verify that the drive containing the DVD is a DVD drive and not a CD-ROM drive. Most DVD drives will haveDVD printed on the front of the drive. For programs on DVD, consider the following:
  • DVD drives can read both DVD's and CD's.
  • CD-ROM drives can read only CD's.
  1. If multiple disc drives (e.g., CD-ROM and CD-RW, or DVD and DVD-RW, or CD-ROM and DVD-RW, etc.) exist on the computer that can read the disc (refer to the items under Step 2), insert the CD or DVD into the other drive and try the program again.
  2. If you are attempting to install a program and the installation does not begin after inserting the CD/DVD into the proper drive, refer to the program's instructions for the installation procedure.
  3. Clean the CD/DVD in the following manner:
  1. Place a small amount of nonabrasive liquid soap on the shiny side of the CD/DVD.
  2. Using your fingertips and warm water, gently rub the soap on the CD/DVD in a circular motion.
  3. Rinse the CD/DVD thoroughly and dry it using a clean, soft T-shirt or lint-free towel. (Do not use paper towels or tissue paper.)
  1. Try to use a different CD or DVD in the drive to see if that disc can be read.
  2. If possible, insert the problem CD or DVD into the DVD or CD drive of another computer to see if the issue persists.

A200 DISC DRIVE NOT WORKING
This problem could be more than a software conflict. When inserting a disc, does it spin up at all? If it doesnt the motor could be burnt out. Sometimes even if it does, the lens could be burnt out.I would suggest for one, removing iTunes to see if that is the real issue. If so post again with a little more information and results.Like you already heard it could be because i programs registry entry was not removed when the program was. Disc spins excessively fast and program won't start
Take a can of air and blow some air gently into it. Could be a dust problem on the laser. After this then try and load the game again, if it doesn't work still, then its a weak laser and you'll have to get the drive replaced

Home theater won't start playing DVD
If a disc will not spin, A- the laser may not be focusing on the disc, as it must do this before it will spin and read the TOC. ( table of contents) B- you could have a fault in the spindle motor circuit or the motor could be bad. You will need to find an authorized servicer if you do not understand solid state repairs.
