Hitachi 51F510 CONVERGENCE ISSUE

I just had the 2 IC`S replaced and the blue crt blinks on and off . It did this before the IC`S were replaced also. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this TV is only four years old. Resistors were also checked.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Hitachi projection TV - video is in 3d rainbow

This sounds like a convergence circuit problem. Your set has two convergence IC chips (integrated circuit). One is for the red CRT, the other is for the blue CRT. This is a common issue with projection TVs. It is not a difficult repair if you have any experience with electronics and soldering. Both convergence ICs should be replaced at the same time. The part is IC (STK394-160E) and is available for around $36 or less. If you have a shop fix this they will likely charge $300-$400. If this information was helpful or if you would like to know how to do this repair in more detail post back on this thread. I would be happy to walk you through it.

Hitachi Television

Your TV most likely has one or more possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Getting double images on screen like outlines on images

Your TV has a failure of its convergence output ICs and perhaps some of the convergence circuit's other associated parts. The part numbers for the ICs are on the IC face. They can be purchased thru Hitachi or online at MCM Electronics.

Hitachi 43FDX15B Convergence Failed

You will need to order part no. CZ01341. This is the output ic. There are 2 of them, replaced them both. The numbers that are printed on the old part will not match the new part, do NOT take this to hart. It is a modification that you are putting in. You should be able to do this your self. I would charge 350.00. The set is not worth much, not working. Maybe 100.00

Re: 43FDX01B blue convergence issues

Ditto CTF1800's comment....Check RP-41 1.5 ohm 2 watt and
other low value resistors near IC's mounted on large heatsinks.

STK392-110 original convergence IC's can be upgraded to
Hitachi # CZ 01341 new number STK394-160E for greater reliability.......Hitachi also has an IC / resistor kit # X480295,
but I don't change good resistors, only the bad one(s).

Practice good visual acuity technique and ask questions!.....T.

Hitachi 50+in rear projection tv

If you mean that the 3 colors (reg, green and blue) suddenly no longer line up properly in one area of the screen, it means that one of your convergence IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. There is no adjustment that will correct the picture in this case. When I do a housecall to replace a burned out convergence IC and realign the convergence circuits, I charge $150 but shops in your area will vary so be sure to ask around.
