LG Bottom Freezer Freezes But Food Compartment Warm

We just returned from a 3 week trip. I noticed that though the icemaker was full and everything was frozen, the upper food compartment was somewhat warmer than usual. We've purchased some groceries, and now its evident that the refrigerator compartment hardly works at all. Here's a couple of variables to the problem: 1. While we were gone, there was at least one power outage. 2. Our departure coincided with the installation of new central air ductwork about 4 feet from the LG. 3. I've gone from 4 to 6 on the touchpad controller for the fridge (last night). 4. This LG is less than a year old. 5. No air blows from the fridge compartment vent. 6. Fridge light works. To try to solve this myself, I vacuumed the vent in the back, which was pretty dusty, but seeing that its freezing fine. I'm at a loss, and ready to get to work with a BFH.

I unplugged the unit and let it sit overnight with the doors open. This morning I was able to use a hair dryer to blow from the topmost vent in the fridge compartment and my son confirmed that he could feel warm air flowing into the freezer - so the vent appears to be open.

When I emptied the freezer, there was some minor ice crystals on the back wall, but not more than would be a half-cup of ice. And this morning, the towels that I left to pick up dripping moisture were dry. So, I do not believe that the vents were clogged with ice.

I plugged the unit in, and the freezer is starting to freeze, but the upper fridge compartment is still not getting cold at all.

    Any more ideas?

Try completely defrosting the unit (turn it off), then start it again and see what you get. Check that the ventilation around the outside - especially the back - is ok. If no luck from that then you should be able to get it fixed under warranty; http://us.lge.com/general/contact.jsp If your warranty is not valid for any reason, please ask again and we may be able to help, however the majority of things that might need to be done to a unit like this are illegal to perform unless you are qualified, and require quite expensive special tools. It is almost certainly fixable, and would certainly be cheaper than a new fridge. Hope this helps :)

Water is building up on bottom of fridge

If you have water build-up on the floor of the food compartment, or ice buildup on the floor of the freezer compartment, you are probably suffering from either a frost problem or from a clogged defrost drain.

Remove everything from your freezer, including all food and any shelves. Do not remove the icemaker (if installed.)
Look at and feel the panel covering the bottom or back of the freezer compartment. Is it thick with frost?
On top freezer models, are the holes in the top of the food compartment that lead to the evaporator choked with ice?
Is there ice forming on, or lots of water on the ceiling of the food compartment?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, there's probably a defrost problem.
If you suspect a defrost problem, first remove any icemaker that may be installed. You will see a removable panel covering the entire back or bottom of your freezer compartment. There may be 6 to 10 or more screws holding it on. In some units there is a light socket attached to the panel; you'll see this arrangement most often in side-by-sides.

If you start to get an unusual buildup of ice in one particular spot in your freezer, especially beneath the icemaker, check for water leaks.
Water leaking onto the kitchen floor not traceable to one of the problems in Chapters 4 or 6 may be from a leak in the icemaker or door dispenser water system. Icemakers have a water solenoid valve mounted on the back of the fridge, usually behind the back bottom panel, and a water tube that leads straight up the back of the fridge to the icemaker. Door dispensers have a similar water solenoid valve with a water tube that leads beneath the fridge and into the door through a hollow hinge. If your fridge has both features, it's usually a dual water solenoid valve. It can be simple or not-so-simple to fix, but basically it's just a plumbing job.

LG lxf31945st 3 door french er F1 code and chugging noise. WIll it effect my food I cant get anyone out for a week! Not sure if it is the ice fan or not

If its not making ice then its just the fan the blows air to the icemaker compartment. This will not affect your food. The ice in your icebucket will melt though. I would empty it.

The refridgerator is set at 40, & all the food freezes, especially in the bins. lg lfx25971

I had this problem for 2 weeks until I noticed the ice-maker door was shut but not completely. Make sure the ice-maker door is shut..hope this is your problem...

GE side by side refrigerator GSHF5KGXECWW MS

Ok.. Just a bit of info for you if you have to sometime in the future do a parts search. This unit is the same as the Hotpoint HSS25GFTWW

Now for the icemaker problem.

When ice makers start making less ice it is usually a sign of some other problem.
1. Ice build up on the evaporator coils in the back of the freezer.
2. A slow or not functioning evaporator fan.
3. Dirty condensor coils in the back or the unit
4. A condensor fan that is running slow or not turning.
5. An automatic defrosting problem (most common problem)

If you have ice cream you probably notice that it is softer than usual. Or things in the freezer just are not as stiff as they usually are. When you notice this the freezer is warming up but the fresh food compartment is fine.

1st.. check to make sure the control panel settings are set to "0" for the freezer and "37" for the fresh food compartment.

2nd.. look for any obvious signs of ling build up in the bottom and back of the unit.

3rd .. Listen to the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment.
a. must be running full speed
b. should not sound like it is striking anything

4th.. Is the chassis near the doors hot to the touch? (should be warm not hot)
a. if hot to the touch the condensor is not getting rid of the heat due to lint build up, or slow / stuck / failed condensor fan.

5th.. there is always the very rare chance that there is an actual problem in the ice maker. (thermostat)

Top of refrigerator is warm and bottom freezes everything it is a side by side refrigerator and the top two shelves of the freezer(along with the icemaker) thaw and melt but the bottom freezes and the top...

poss answer is drain hole/vent blocked,as unit auto defrosts water/vapour collects at bottom and when unit swiches back on it freezes, poke out drain with thin wire with a small piece of cloth dipped in clorine bleach or blow out with air hose.do not use hot water to manually defrost/ clean drain holes every 6 months

Icemaker stops. lever to shut off icemaker frozen in place. used hair dryer to melt frozen gears and loosen lever, but water gets into gear housing again and freezes lever again

These icemakers are not repairiable.
The icemaker will need to be replaced with LG part#

This is an updated icemaker to correct the problems of past units.

Food in refrig crispers freezes. Top of freezer too warm.

Good day,
You are right about it being little or no air circulation. There is a fan motor in the freezer, which you can access by removing the rear panel of the freezer panel.
That's the good news. The bad news it is a DC variable speed motor controlled thru a thermistor and powered from the motherboard located in the back wall of the refrigerator.
You can remove and take the motor to an appliance parts house that deals in GE parts. If they determine the motor is bad, then you could effect a repair.
If not the machine is too complex, and some parts so expensive that repair is best left to a GE qualified pro.

I have an older ET21DM with an icemaker. Water is

you need to clean the drain after you clean the ice out you should notice a hole run a piece of wire down the hole a couple of times then flush with hot water

Candy CPCA250 GB Freezer feezing but fridge not cold

Hello jonnyclewlow

You said, you recently had a problem with my Candy fridge freezer (it defrosted overnight and wasnt cooling at all) and a repair shop diagnosed a thermostat problem. I have replaced the thermostat, Now the freezer freezes without any problems but the fridge does not go cold at all.
Also the compressor is running constantly

This is my first thought

Fresh Food temperature is
too warm. Freezer
temperature is satisfactory.

1. Fresh Food control is set too
2. Set fresh food control to a colder setting. Allow 24
hours for temperature to stabilize.

3.Then see if you do not have your freezer articles packed full up to the top, or covering the cold air vents usually found in the rear of the freezer compartment.

The fridge and the freezer share the cold air so the air must not be restricted from travel form the freezer to the fridge and back!
This would also cause the compressor to run none stop trying to cool the fridge!
So check your air vents in the freezer.
I'll bet you did not know they were there !
Most of us never notice!
Hope this works for you.
Please let me know that one of these solutions worked for you!
or if you have any questions.
Thank You, huuum
