Many people order a martini, for instance, and don't know
whether or to ask for it shaken or stirred.
I have been a bartender for 10 years and have learned a very valuable
rule surrounding this very popular question -
Cocktails containing either juice or milk should be
shaken. This aerates the ingredients and
flavors enhancing the taste of the cocktail, while at the same time creating a
pleasing visual effect of frothiness. In
contrast, cocktails using only spirits, such as martinis and manhattans, should
be stirred.
