Wind bobbin on Decor Excel 5018

I always forget how to wind my bobbin on the Decor Excel 5018, does anyone know how or know where I might find instructions? I think I have the thread lined up properly, put when I press the foot, the needle moves so I know I'm doing something wrong.
Thank you.

Once you have the thread guided and the bobbin is on the thread winder spindle, push the bobbin to the right.  The machine will not sew again until the spindle is in the left position.

Quilting with Excel 5018 can I do free motion quilting

Yes, you can do free motion sewing and quilting with the Janome Decor Excel 5018. Look on the back of the sewing machine behind the needle and bobbin case section. At the bottom of the free-arm section of the machine, more or less in line with the needle bar, is the feed dog position switch. Move the switch towards the motor of the sewing machine to lower the feed dogs. Move it away from the motor to raise the feed dogs. For pictures, see the manual for the Janome Excel 5018, available from Janome here: https://www.janome.com/siteassets/support/manuals/retired/other-models/inst-book-5018-ennose.pdf . Look at page 2 (item 22), page 6 and page 22. (These are pages 8, 16 and 48 of the PDF.) This is a retired machine for Janome and the manual is listed among those here: https://www.janome.com/support/retired-machine-manuals/ .

I hope this helps. Note: you will have to adjust the tension carefully before starting your quilting. The darning foot, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/janome-darning-foot-200349000.aspx , will help you see where you are sewing better than any of the included accessory presser feet.

Janome excel 5018 decor needle goes up and down when I'm trying to fill the bobbin

Usually, the needle bar moving means that the bobbin winder spindle (with the bobbin) wasn't moved all the way to the right. If you moved the spindle, then there may be a damaged part inside the sewing machine below the spindle. (The spindle may not be engaging the winding mechanism which stops the needle bar.) I've found the bobbin winder is still available at one parts store: https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-janome-653508015.aspx . However, there may be other damage inside the machine that could be involved.

See https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=24#manual for the pictures of moving the bobbin winding spindle.

I hope this helps.

Decor craftmaster manual needed

5018 Decor Excel · 5024 Decor Excel II · 5124 Decor Excel Pro are retired machines, all Decor machines. This is the only machine. You might try the following page's search box as it relates to the retired series. Without a model number, it will prove difficult to search for the manual at the site or elsewhere on the internet.

Now the dog feet won't move back up into position

Hello, Carole -

If you have the owner's manual for your Janome Decor Excel 5018 sewing machine, then you can find the diagram naming the parts of the sewing machine (page 2, English text) and showing part #22, the drop feed lever. This is the lever which controls the feed dog.

If that lever does not move either way, then there may be something jamming the feed dog (like lint) or it may need cleaning and oiling.

If you don't have the manual for your machine, see the image to which I refer here:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=8#manual

See this page from the manual to find out how to clean the feed dog:
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/994905/Janome-Decor-Excel-5018.html?page=78#manual

Another possibility for the feed dog not moving is if you have your machine set to the "free-motion" or "darning" operation, which disables the feed dog.

I am having a problem with my Janome Decor Excel 5018. It was working fine, until the bobbin thread won't gather with the top thread. And the top thread is binding up underneath the fabric. Kim

try a new needle

rethread the machine top & bobbin, that way you make sure the thread is not caught anywhere

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted in the machine

clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread & lint

always keep a long thread tail of 3 to 5 inches long, & keep the tails pulled back behind the needle
before sewing

if none of these things help the problem,, then it may need to be serviced
