My magic chef mco160uw tray doesn't turn and the light is off when the microwave operates. It began doing this intermittently but now it happens all the time. I looked at the control panel for obvious burns but couldn't find anything. I did see that the tray and light are operated by the same relay. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
I had similar problems with my microwave shutting off to protect the unit and then coming on normally after it cooled down. I finally found out what my problem was after 6 months of it being installed. My exhaust fan was not working properly. When I say exhaust fan, I do not mean the fan itself. There are 2 or 3 ways to set up the direction of the exhaust fan depending on where your ducting outlet is in your home. I found that the little flap that swings opens that the fans blows open, actually was not swinging open at all or just a little bit. Therefore the microwave would heat up with the warm air and shut down. I just removed the flakey metal swing hinge and now my microwave works like a charm. If you can get to that hinge or remove the whole unit from its wall mount and run it with it sitting on the table or work-bench, that would tell you if it was a ducting problem. Good Luck

The problem will be a bad relay, a component that drives the relay, or a broken trace on the circuit board.
This blown trace happens a lot when the cooktop lights blow.
