SOURCE: Kenmore 2142 sewing machine won't zigzag.

Before you put the cam in did you make sure the machine was set on straight stitch and then select zig zag?

What does an E1 Error mean on my Kenmore sewing machine

The E1 error code indicates that a fuse is blown on the control board. The first image below shows the fuse that corresponds to the E1 error code. NOTE: Be sure to unplug the sewing machine before you access any internal parts.Jun 10, 2008

My machine shows an error number E1what is it

The error code 1 indicates the fuse on the A board has blown. The fuse should be replaced with a part number 000182177 fuse. The original fuse is a 2.5 amp fuse and the replacement fuse is 3.15 amps.
You should take the sewing machine to a Sears service center or a retail store for repair.

Error 1

This problem sounds like it is related to a fuse, You will need to call your local Sears store, find out what your service options are and have then replace the fuse. This should be covered under the 2 year electrical warranty
