SOURCE: lumix DMC- FZ30 - screen is black when camera is turned on

Hello,
I understand that you've tried all the obvious tricks like resetting to factory settings etc.
Sounds like a CCD/shutter failure I'm afraid. FZ30 are not known for failing CCDs, but I've seen shutters fail on various lumix-es, so in this case I would suggest replacing the shutter. To be precise, replacing the shutter itself is a massive pain in the **** on this camera. It's much easier to replace the whole lens-it contains the shutter. You'll need to get a donor camera (ebay ;) and do the transplant. Swapping the lens is relatively easy if you're ok with midly fiddly things. Oh, and make sure you take notes which screws go where when dismantling the camera - and be careful with ribbon cables for the LCD.
Good luck,
Raf

You could do this: Dry the camera, battery, any accessory, etc. with cloth and wrap each piece, camera and accessories, in newspaper. Place a few handfuls of rice into a plastic bag and then place the wrapped camera in the bag with rice. The newspaper wrapping avoids direct contact of rice with your camera because the dust from the rice can get into the small areas of the camera. The newspaper and rice will absorb moisture. Leave it there (with the bag open) at least 24 hrs.

Camera (DMC-FZ10) got wet in a rain storm. Now

I suspect that water has damaged the electronics board in the camera. Unfortunately this is not a waterproof camera. Water will corrode the electronic components and eventually ruin the whole camera,
My suggestion is to claim it on insurance as they wilol repair or replace it on Home insurance. No one puts a camera in water intentionally unless its an underwater camea, so its considered an accident
