Xp install stalling at 79% on compaq presario 700

Hi i did a re-install of xp on presario 700 but it keeps stalling at 79% ...ii tried another xp disc and the same thing with that.The disc im using is a dell one that will install on any pc or laptop i just got the laptop second hand and it was working ok. i just wanted to install a fresh copy of xp can you help me out

hi i figured it out ...there was damaged files on the hard drive..what i did was run killdisc and it found the damaged files ...so then i ran HDD regenerator which repairs damaged files and then the install installed properly...i had tried formating drive (c) several times but it wouldnt go past 79% untill i fixed files on hard drive....thanx a mill ....bonji

erm, theres not difference with the xp discs, just have different software and drivers pre-encoded into the discs. I'd call up compaq and order some new ones or buy another copy of windows xp

Xp home install problem

in this case you will have to first check your hard disk for errors if it is having any bad sectors, if it is not having bad sectors then try changing your ram. if changing your ram is also not helpful then dear i m sorry to say but the problem is with your processor

hey!

you just have to reformat the drive again. do not partition if possible. reformat and clean the disc as well. that should do it.
