Absolutely! Vodka is the most common, but you can also infuse gin and white rum if you would like. I found a great website with plenty of advice on what to use and how to accomplish it. Hope it helps.

No. There are four distinct types of gin- compound, distilled, london dry, and juniper flavored:
-Compound gin- made from adding juniper flavor to a neutral spirit without redistillation
- Distilled gin- made by redistilling alcohol from its agriculturual origin, during which juniper berries are infused
- london dry gin- uses a higher quality base alcohol than regular distilled gin. no colorings or flavoring agents are infused during any part of the process except during redistillation
- juniper flavored spirits- this type of liquor is pot-distilled and exhibits a higher taste of grain. the alcholo content leel is generally lower in this particular style of gin
