It is not necessary, although some manufacturers may recommend it. What this swirling technique does is help release aromas from the wine that may have been trapped during the bottling process.

What are best dates to drink red wine?


There is no magic date. Just make sure to chill it for a hour before drinking. I know it sounds weird but that is how it is done. For white wine and it's been in the refrig. you need to let it sit a hour before drinking. Most folks drink white wine too cold and red wine too warm.

That is a tough question and impossible to answer with a blanket definition. The vast majority of wines are made for immediate consumption, but will also be good to drink for a couple of years. In general, red wines age better than whites and certain grape varieties and wine styles age better than others: wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Port wines can be very long-lived for example. Whether such wines improve with age is a subjective opinion: older wines trade some of their fruit and vibrancy for developed flavors, and it is a trade-off that some like more than others.

First off 500ml seems like quite a small amount of wine as the traditional bottle is 750ml, but okay. If the foil seal was punctured before your purchase there is an easy way to tell if the wine has gone bad. Pour about a shot glass worth of it into a typical wine glass and swirl it around in the glass for about 10 seconds. Smell it while it's still swirling and if you pick up any instant sour notes then your wine most likely has started to sherry. Not that this will hurt you in any way, but it makes the wine less enjoyable. If someone opened it before and allowed air into the wine that's all it takes. My advice, stick to boxed wines as they are engineered not to allow air into the wine at all and can keep for a very long time if refrigerated. Better yet, grab a bottle of some of the good stuff and drink within 2-3 days of opening, keep refrigerated.

Drinking alcohol relaxes the throat muscles. If you drink too much before bedtime, your throat muscles relax which adds to the obstruction of the airways, which leads to snoring as the tissue vibrates while trying to let the air through.

Allowing time for a wine to breathe can bring great flavor qualities to the wine that may not have been present if consumed immediately. Not all wines will benefit from being given time to breathe. It is also crucial not to let them sit too long. Although oxygen helps to open up the wine, it also oxidizes the wine, eventually ruining it.

I recommend leaving younger reds for about an hour, while giving more mature reds up to three hours of breathing time.
