In writing, the wine making process can be made to sound quite difficult - I will do my best to keep it simple.

It begins by crushing harvested grapes to release the sugars in their juice. The juice naturally ferments when yeast comes into contact with sugar. The result of this process is alcohol and carbon dioxide. The fermented wine is then separated from the solid matter of the grapes and moved into a vat/cask where the wine is then clarified. The final step of the process is bottling the wine.

This is of course a very basic way to describe the wine making process. For a more in depth read, please consult the link below.

I really don't like the taste of red wine, but wish I did. How can I train myself to get used to the taste of wine?

Some people consider red wine to be an acquired taste- I think that everyone can learn to love the qualities of red wine varieties. If you are not a red wine drinker, but want to be, I suggest the following: I recommend beginning with a wine light in tannins- such as a white zinfandel. Once you can tolerate and maybe even appreciate this wine then you can move onto other light, even sweeter reds such as a Merlot or Chianti.

What is a fortified wine?

A fortified wine is more commonly known as a port. To make port, brandy is added to wine to stop fermentation before the yeasts eat all the sugars of the grapes, thus producing a sweeter wine with higher alcohol content.

I know that wines are made from grapes, but why are some wines red, some pink, and some white?

White wines are most often made from green/yellow grapes. Red wines get their coloring from being in contact with the skins of red grapes during the fermentation process. Finally, rose wines can attribute their coloring in one of two ways - either by being in short contact with red skins or by mixing finished red and white wines.

What is dessert wine?

Sweet or you can say dessert wine is produced with extra sweet wine grapes. In order to make them sweet, the fermentation is stopped before the yeast turns all the natural grape sugar into alcohol.

Can I keep red and white wine in the same temperature?

Not recommended. Red and white wines are different worlds and in order to preserve the wine better you need to keep the wine in the recommended temperature: Red wines at 12.7-15.5 C and white wines at 9.5-13.3 C
