unplug the unit for about 20 minutes. This should allow the unit to go back to it's factory default settings. Switch the TV to the HDMI input. Turn the TV off - hook the unit up with only the HDMI and turn on the TV. If all goes well, the TV should signal the DVD player to turn on. If not, wait about 10 minutes then manually turn on the DVD from the front panel (not the remote) This will usually fix you right up.

It may be difficult to find a replacement, but there should be third party companies who only provide replacement remotes that could find one for you. You should try entering "LTD1710 remote" in a search engine to find a specialty site.
the code for malata dvd player is 0782 but when i tried it didnt work. i used the code search method and it worked for me. the only problem i have is that the buttons are mixed up for example, the "menu" button opens the disk tray. so far this is the only way i could get it to work with the rca remote.
