Magic chef door left open, froze up. We unplugged and defrosted. Plugged in. Will not come back on.

What can we do now?

Sounds like you have the unit out of level front to back leaning towards the back. Try leveling or just tilted a little with the top leaning just a little toward you. This should keep it from flying all the way around.

The timer is located behind the fridge , down by the compressor .

We had this happen and to replace the start capacitor. It cost us with part and labor approx $135.00.

are you sure it was fully defrosted b4 you plugged back in?
How did you defrost it? I assume you did not chip away at the ice with something sharp an punch a hole in the copper tubing.

QWhy won't magic chef 6 cubic chest freeze freeze anything after I defrosted it?
Try plugging something else in the outlet. A lamp would work to make sure you did not trip a circut breaker when you plugged back in after defrost.

How long does it take for fridge and freezer to defrost
That really depends on the environment its placed in. If its running and functioning properly, then it should ho into defrost every 6 - 8 hours and the heaters come on during that time for about 15 - 20 minutes. If you are meaning unplugged, then thawing time willl depend on the temperature the machine is in, if the doors are left open, and how long the ice build up has been going on before action was taking to rememdy it.

Since you left door open I think the evaporator is frozen up .Just shut it off for a while and let everything defrost then turn it back on and you should be fine

Your defrost timer,defrost thermostat and defrost heater need to be checked.
The heater and thermostat are inside the freezer behind the back freezer panel.
The timer is underneath the refrigerator either the left front or right rear.

yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

MAGIC CHEF CTF1920ARA - Freezer works, Refrig. portion does not.
Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
