Can I update the OS on a DXG 305v digital camcorder to be able to read more than 512 MB? Can it even read and HCSD chip?

I assume you mean SDHC. DXG does not have a firmware update for this camera. The differences between SD and SDHC involve hardware. If a device was designed to work only with SD cards and not with SDHC cards then no amount of firmware updating will change this.

When you insert a new 2gb sd card and the camera message reads card full.

The card may need to be formatted, or it may be that this camera does not support so large a memory card.

WHEN I TURN ON MY DXG 505V THE SCREEN ASKS FORMAT SD CARD? I ANSWER YES. GOES BACK TO DXG ON SCREEN AND KEEPS REPEATING ITSELF ABOUT THE SD CARD. AND SO ON

Most likely cause is the the SD Card is the wrong type. There are different types in the same size card.

Some cameras can only take a card to a certain volume in GB. You put a 5GB card in a camera that is only rated to 2GB and you will get an error.

Make you the Lock Protection tab is set to unlocked.

Remove battery, wait 2 minutes and try again.

The manual says this regarding format failure

The digital video camera cannot guarantee to perform formatting on all memory card formats. When this happens, please format the memory card on a PC as the FAT format.

How to get music on to the 3.0 megapixel Digital Video Camera DXG

refer to your users manual.

The DXG-305V has the ability to play MP3 files. Only song files in the MP3 file
format can be played in the MP3 function. Files on CDs are usually in the
Windows Media format (.wma) or wav format and cannot be played in their
native format; they must first be converted into MP3 files. This can be
accomplished with many types of software which are available at little or no
cost.
Once the songs are in the MP3 format, they can be transferred to the MP3 folder
in the camera’s onboard memory or onto the SD card. This can be
accomplished by one of two ways: 1.) Attach the USB cable to the camera,
select “Mass Storage” and then use your PC to find the removable hard drive
( the camera / SD card). Once located, drag and drop the MP3 files into the MP3
folder. NOTE: Two removable hard drives will be visible if the camera has an SD
card inserted. 2.) The other way is to place the SD card into a card reader,
locate the MP3 folder, and drag and drop the MP3 files into the MP3 folder. The
card can then be re-inserted into the camera.
Once the files are in the MP3 folder, they can be played by rotating the mode dial to the mp3 mode
