did you ever solve this issue? I just borrowed my mom's and it worked fine for two days and then suddenly won't turn on at all. I wonder if there is a fuse that might have blown during a power surge while we were out of town or something...
Any help would be appreciated.

I am 99.9% sure that you are simply looking at this year vs. last year models. There are absoutly no significant changes. I will verify on Mondayas I know the engineer at Honeywell that works on this particular product!
SOURCE: my honeywell air purifier is emmiting an awful
Mine quit too... The led screen went blank so I changed the battery. Now it does nothing. I totally disassembled it as the fan was turning stiffly.(should spin very easilly) The grease in the end bearing was stiff. I washed the gummy grease off the shaft and reoiled with synthetic oil. Your smell is probably motor windings overheating. I disassembled the electronic control and was disgusted to see that there is a glass fuse soldered to the circuit board. I believe the only reason for this fuse is to cause us consumers to needlessly replace otherwise good equipment. (It cost more to pay a repairman to replace the hidden fuse than to purchase a new unit)The fuse is not blown. At least this fuse actually looks lide a fuse unlife the stealth fuses most electronics have hidden in them. I can not obtain a wireing diagram on my 17005 unit but it has a black box inside behind the control panel. It looks like a small start capacitor, but it has a temp rating on it of 70*C. I suspicion it is a single use over heat safety which triggered when my motor got hot due to stiff bearings. I refuse to play their game and purchase a new air cleaner. I love this one... So, if I can not determine what that little black box is, I am going to bypass all the crappy electronics and just drill a hole on top by the handle and install a hi/lo/off manual switch directly to the motors wire hasness. This machine will never give me problems ever again, and if I oil the motor every couple of years with synthetic (Ander oil) this unit WILL last me for the rest of my life...
SOURCE: honeywell air purifier, will not turn on,
Does this unit have a 3 volt battery in the control panel like the 17005 model? The battery lasts appx 4-5 years then the unit doesnt seem to work any more once you change it. The unit must be left plugged in while you change the battery otherwise you lose your programing. If your not under warranty, UNPLUG it then pull out the filter, take out the 6 screws, separate the sides, and expose the fan. If the fan does not spin very easilly with no drag, the bearings are gummy; which is why nearly all small motors get replaced. The motor can be easilly disassembled, gummy grease washed off with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab, and reoiled with synthetic oil. These units are designed to gum up and require replacement at approximately the same time the warranty expires. They would last almost indefinitely if oiled in their little oil ports occasionally (every couple of years). If your bearings are stiff, then a hidden safety device has tripped to avoid a fire, and if you are handy, you can replace the blown fuse if you can locate it on the circuit board, or the blown over temp device. If you have to pay some one to do this, it is cheaper to replace the whole machine in this throw away world.
