If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver.
You may have to replace the capacitor as well. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

SOURCE: Fan stopped working in JVM1533BD microwave

I assume you're talking about the hood fan which ventilates the cook top and blows air through the grille across the top. If so, it's okay to use the microwave with that not working, but if you boil something on the stove, an external fan is definitely needed to keep mositure from going up into the microwave controls. If the cooling fan INSIDE the microwave (behind the keypad) is not working, then you do NOT want to run it unit it is fixed. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: GEJE2160 Stop Working

It probably blew the main power fuse in side the oven. This may have happen because of a failure in the microwave or a line voltage surge or what ever. Repalce the fuse and see if it work. be sure to unplug it before doing this, If this does not fix it then you have a failure in the oven some were.

SOURCE: Everything works except heat

Sounds like you've had a failure in the microwave portion of the unit.

Microwave not heating problems when the timer/controller board appears to function properly, are related to the following components -

1) Diode
2) Capacitor
3) Transformer
4) Magnetron

If everything else is working fine, the magnetron is the likely problem, "heats food and is the heart of the microwave oven" if more than five years old cheaper to replace the whole item.

Usually when it doesn't het there is a problem with either the magnetron or one of the power tranistors. You would have to get a shop to tell you what the problem is as it can be a few things. If you have warrenty either maytags or from the store just find out from the store/maytag where the repair depot is. They will either repair or replace it. If no warrenty then don;t do anything without getting an estimate. It may be just as cheap to buy a new microwave.

if everything works except the heating, it is most likely the mag tube is on its way out.........that is the most common reason for it not too cook.......since the microwave is a GE and it is 3.5 years old, i would say you are better off buying a new microwave, the mag tube starts at around $70.00 and up + the labor it costs too have a service person put it in........around another $60.00

Ge microwave won't heat everything else works fine

Hello t_sumner4756,
Everything else can work perfectly fine but if it doesn't generate microwaves to heat your food than it is not working ( you knew that anyway).. Unfortunately, and in most cases when you microwave stops working in that manner..the components at fault are either the Magnetron, Filament PS or a High Voltage Capacitor..What that means is that you are probably better off just replacing the entire appliance rather than attempting to repair it. If it is a year old or less, bring it back to where you purchased it and have them replace it.. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but when the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace... it just isn't worth repairing.. Plus.. there is an element of danger associated with these kinds of repairs...
