Remove the small glass pane of the left side of the scanner bed. You onlt need to remove one screw. Push the driver belt which will move the scanner to the left. It can be a little tricky to move the scanner the last little bit so you may need needle nose pliers or someone with a hook (I used a fork) to pull the scanner last little bit. Once the scanner is in the open spot where you removed the glass panel, simple take a q-tip and clean the mirror.
I did this and my machine is working just fine.

Use the alphanumeric buttons on the device control panel to dial the number.
If the fax number you are calling has been assigned to a one-touch key, press that key.
If the fax number you are calling has a speed-dial entry, press phone book, use the

Note When dialing by using the alphanumeric buttons, include any pauses or additional numbers
that are necessary for the call, such as an area code, an access code for numbers that are
outside of a PBX system (usually a 9), or a long-distance prefix.
2. Load the document onto the flatbed scanner face down.
select YES when Send from glass? 1=Yes 2=No
appears, and then press menu/enter..

try to clean the pick rollers with cotton w/ alcohol.if it doesn't work maybe your separation pad is worn out and need to replace it..

Remove and replace the power cord from the unit.
Wait approximately for 35 seconds for the scanning assembly to "walk out"(move to ready position)and then quickly remove the plug again.
Repeat step 1 and 2,three or four times until the head (scanner lamps)moves approximately 1 inch away from its normal resting place.
Replace the plug and let the product fully finish the boot cycle.
