Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV Logo

Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

Sony Bravia Just went out of warranty, of course. Now there is a black bar around the pictures on some of the channels that were not there before. I don't know what happened. I'm not very technical, so I need to know if this is something I can correct or do I need to call a repair person. It's not on all the channels, just some of them, esp. HDTV channels. I am connected to a Motorola "Moxi" box (Charter Cable). Any help is appreciated.

Unless it is actually chopping off the side of the image, this is nothing to worry about. The TV is just keeping the picture in its original aspect ratio, as in if the broadcast was originally square shaped, the tv will not attempt to stretch it. You can change this setting either using your cable remote or in the tv menu; unfortunately I can only adjust mine from the Directv box I have so I can't help you there. With regard to the HDTV channels, I would bet you are referring to HD channels that are broadcasting standard 480 definition footage. In that case, your receiver will still interpret the signal as being HD, but the network itself will insert those bars (and you have no control over that)

One week ago I purchased a Sony - BRAVIA 32" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV Model: KDL32EX500 | SKU: 9761147 from Best Buy. When I first turn it on, the picture has flashes of white light that...

Hi,
If standby red light is blinking on tv front that means tv got some internal problem, since tv is new so would be under warranty, call Best Buy or number written on tv documents and ask warranty cover.
Any attempt to fix tv by yourself will void warranty.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Black line going down middle of screen and one side of picture darker also picture sometime is distorted on bottom

if the line is pixel thin, it could be a bad lcd panel. if it is a wider bar, it may be in the video circuitry. many of these sony tvs had bad panels, and sony has extended the warranty. call up sony with your model and serial # and date of purchase and try to get them to help you out, that is your best course of action. let me know if you need more troubleshooting assitance.

Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR6 screen adjustment

That sounds very normal to me. When your watching a HD channel, and a commercial comes on and the screen gets smaller with as you say the black bars, just means that the commercial is not broadcasting in HD. You can change it by pushing the button on your TV remote that says picture, but you are streaching the screen and are going to loose the quality of the picture. You may also want to spend a few hours, going into you TV settings and just start playing with the settings. Just remember where they were before you change something. You can also purchase a guide to LCD settings to point you in the right direction. If you have your TV set to vivid or one of the preset picure modes, it is costing you more power and you are not getting the best picture that the TV can produce. Play around with the custom setting or buy one of those calibration CD's off the internet.

The picture went out on our sony bravia lcd

If the unit is less than a year old, it should still be under warranty through the rental center. The inverter has failed. This is what supplies the light behind the panel. This is a relatively common failure and is easily fixed by a service center. Call the rental center for instructions on what to do. This is not a failure than can be caused by misuse. You should not be at fault here.
