Question about Sony BRAVIA KDL-40S2000 40 in. LCD HDTV
Unless it is actually chopping off the side of the image, this is nothing to worry about. The TV is just keeping the picture in its original aspect ratio, as in if the broadcast was originally square shaped, the tv will not attempt to stretch it. You can change this setting either using your cable remote or in the tv menu; unfortunately I can only adjust mine from the Directv box I have so I can't help you there. With regard to the HDTV channels, I would bet you are referring to HD channels that are broadcasting standard 480 definition footage. In that case, your receiver will still interpret the signal as being HD, but the network itself will insert those bars (and you have no control over that)
