Hi
Sony dvd rw aw-g170a does not read a dvd game I purchased and comes up with message "Windows cannot read the disk. the disk might be corrupt ......" etc etc
The disk plays in other DVD drives but does not play in my computer. I tried the DVD game in my brothers pc and it played and was recognized.
I have windows xp service pack 2 on my pc with a samsung dvd rw tss1550 (E drive) and another dvd-rom being sony dvd rw aw-g170a (D drive).
Please help. I think it is a software problem but I am lost.
This is a problem with the DVD Writer model.
SONY DVD RW AW-G170a has problems reading DVD+/- R/RW Discs.
But there is no problem with any of the DVD+/- R/RW Dual Layer, DVD Ram or CD+/- R/RW Discs.
It is the reason that this DVD Writer lacks the correct bitsetting for DVD+/- R/RW Discs.
There is nothing else you could do other than replacing the wirter with some other model.

you might want to try and update the firmware on the DVD burner, find out with the vendor if there is a fw version and how to do it, if not I would suggest hiring a professional.
The yellow exclamation point is telling you there is a problem with the device. First thing to do is uninstall the device using your hardware or device manager. Reboot. Your pc should automatically recognize the device on reboot and install the proper drivers. If not then you will have to go to the Sony website and download & install the drivers manually. If this does not fix the problem then your drive has went bad & will need replaced. Good luck & I hope this helps you out.
I believe the read head is not aligned properly. I would send it back for a replacement. I have had this happen several time after the DVD burners/readers had many hours on them.
