Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (M1227310) Hard Drive
I can't get my drive to start up at all. I knocked the lead out while it was copying a file :S not good, I know. Device manager acknowledges the device is there, but won't allow me to connect or disconnect. It even goes as far as to make the standard windows 'bleep' to let me know a USB device is being connected/disconnected. I've checked the wiring etc but to no avail. Also, if the device is plugged in during start-up, it stops windows from booting. Any ideas would be most appreciated :)
Re-connect the hdd to pc. Go into Device Manager and select Disk Management. If the HDD is displayed here, see what options are available prior to a re-Format. Hope this helps...

Well, I checked in device management again and found it was detected but albeit with the added bonus of the hard disc not spinning at all. It gives me a code 10. I've tried it on my other pc, but it doesn't detect it. This is, however, apparently down to known driver issues. This to me still isn't clear, as one machine has the drivers, one doesn't and neither can detect it. If anyone can link me to the drivers, that might give me a running head start. At least when I can know for sure if another machine can detect it, I can deduce whether it's a hardware issue with the drive itself or just a configuration one.
