those of you who have the KDS-R50XBR1 or KDS-R60XBRI tv & have color bloches on screen of various colors & places around the screen please check the Sony web site for extended warranty on the optical block . read entire settlement agreement from lawsuit on these tvs. try sony support type in tv model . type in settlement. look around for dates for the above ...you may have rights for extended repair on the optical block ..., my blotch was yellow. 866-850-8674 I would check site to find out before you call. I have the same problem just called Sony and they have extended the warranty to fix the color problem until June 2009. They have a tech coming out.

Call Sony Tech support at 866-850-8674. This may be a light engine problem which is covered under an extended warranty until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date. I did the same today for the same problem. Good luck,

WEGA only show yellow

Hello watts74:

When you turn your tv on, you still get an image of whatever channel you are on, but the background on the entire screen is green/yellow, correct? If so, the problem is the optical block. Read what I posted below on another thread and you should be on your way to getting your situation resolved.

Here is the link to the other thread I mentioned: http://www.fixya.com/support/t157434-green

All the best...

If your SONY KDS-R50XBR1 or KDS-R60XBR1 color screen suddenly turns green, the optical block (aka light engine) is the culprit. Don't fret because as "Leadtech" has already posted back on Jul 04, 2007, SONY is aware of this problem and has extended the warranty to replace this very part. Additionally, and aside from the class action lawsuit currently pending in district court, parts and labor for in-house service IS included.

SONY states the warranty as follows:

"As part of the Sony commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that it is extending the limited warranty (parts and labor), in the United States, on the optical block of KDS-R50XBR1 and KDS-R60XBR1 model SXRD televisions until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date."

So all you have to do is:

1) Contact SONY Customer Service at (800) 222-7669 or (888) 772-7669 - Hours: Mon-Fri 9:00AM-10:00PM / Sat-Sun 10:30AM-7:15PM EST

2) Provide them with your model (as above) and your television's serial number

3) Tell them your screen color is nothing but green

4) They will provide you with a case number

5) They will ask you for your zip code and provide you with one or more SONY authorized service dealers, and their contact information.

6) You contact the dealer of your choice and schedule an in-house service. Explain to them that your screen is green and you are aware that many, same tv-model owners that have had this same problem, and that the optical block is the problem.

7) The SONY authorized dealer you speak with will schedule and appointment with you, and will provide in-house service.

Regarding the service, it will take about an hour to complete. Not that it is complicated for the technician, but where the optical block is located is that is time-consuming. It sits just "behind" the bottom of the tv screen and in order to get to it, the technician will have to:

1) Remove the bottom back gray cover

2) Remove the replaceable projection lamp located on the left side of the tv (looking from the back)

3) Remove lots of phillips screws

4) Disconnect many plugs

5) Remove 3 chassis closest to the back of the tv before getting to the optical block chassis, which is located up front, just behind the tv screen

Once the optical block is replaced, you will be amazed on correct color results.

Hope this helps...
