My RCA unit is less then 6 month old barely used just quit working. No lights on display or power button.
I unplugged and pug it back in, power button comes on but when I push on it starts to click and shuts off.
I had a similar problem with my unit. It Worked fine for about 4-6 months with a slight problem of a loud hum of the cooling fan during the first 5 initial minutes upon turning it on.
However yesterday it all of sudden stopped working, it remained on, because you could hear the fan, but nothing else. I could not even turn it off, unless completely unplugging. I finally decided to open the unit up and unscrewed the top part. Apperantly some of the fuzes' covers (plastic) had starting melting down due to the heat, or improper ventilation, and that black molten plastic goop got in the way of the connections. I cleaned up as much as I could, and after that it seemed to be working fine...
This is not a bad unit, and has a great potential, too bad that the interior was so cheaply designed that its durability is obsviously meant to be of a short life span...

Re: RCA RTD258 Not working
Do you have a DVD in the player? If an incompatible region code disc was left in the player upon shutdown, it will cause your particular system to lockup. Your unit has a 1 year warranty, and you can easily obtain over the phone help from RCA by calling 580-634-0366 and have your unit?s date of purchase and model/serial number ready. The model/serial number information is on the back of your unit. During your phone call the Technician will determine if you should receive a replacement unit, and if so, will provide you all of the relavent information and a Service Request Number for your tracking convenience. Keep this SR# permanently so you can cite your history should future problems arise, also, a helpful tip is should you utilize a Passcode for your system and forget it, the Master Passcode is 9688.

Try unplugging it for 30 mins. If it still has the problem, it may have when into protection mode.
When this happens, a part in the TV when bad. The protection mode keeps the TV from staying on to prevent further damage.
At this point, I would use the warranty on the TV. Being that it's only 6 months old.
A faulty power strip which the hone power supply was pugged into resulted in no power to the phone which ran down the AA batteries. Replaced the 3 batteries, display returned and replaced the power strip. All is back to nornal.
I have contacted Venturer Electronics Inc. (which have recently purchased RCA); they are in Toronto, Ontario. They suggested to perform a Manufacturer Reset (as follows); and if it works; system should power up [this means there was a glitch in the software]...(this usually happens when system is plugged into a power bar or surge protector) if not, contact them @ 1-800-721-4007. They honor the manufacturer's (RCA) 1 year warranty... with receipt.
To reset Unit:
Unplug Unit from AC power (other wires can stay connected)
Press the On/Standby button in front of Unit 15 times
Wait 30 minutes
Replug Unit to AC power
Press the On/Standby button to power up unit
Wait couple of minutes for unit to do its thing
**If unit works properly, then ensure not to plug unit into power bar or surge protector, keep plugged into wall.
**If unit will not power up properly, contact them for further instructions.
Hope this is helpful....
My Unit powered up wonderfully and is currenlty working like a charm.
I have this exact problem, it appears the power on/off switch no longer works. After re-setting by unplugging the unit, use the remote only. As for the display, I find that if I turn the home theatre on last, the unit works and if I turn it on first, it behaves as you described.
