I see there are two pins inside the housing holding the shaft. The one towards the bottom came out easily, but the second will not. I'm guessing with these two pons out. the shaft will come out allowing assess to what is keeping the collar on.

I was unable to get that ring off also... I was able to pull plastic side apart far enough to pull motor out and "rewire" it. Even fit back in when I was done... just barely. and was very gentle...

I do not know how to get the ring apart, though.

There are 2 openings on the top end of the black collar(toward the handle), stick a small screwdriver in each of these and twist a little to release pawls inside the collar. The black collar should the slide right up the handle and release the two halves of the motor case. Good luck!

Just pulled mine straight up the shaft toward the handle. Gave it a good tug, too; but it popped right off. (I had trouble getting any results with a screwdriver down the sides).

Similar to Putnam's response, I put the blade of a flat screwdriver against the bottom edge of the black collar and gave it a sharp upward blow with a hammer and the collar snapped loose from the retainer. The retainer is just 2 nibs on the collar that snap into 2 pockets in the orange motor housing neck. The pockets and nibs are located just beneath the 2 slot openings at the top of the black collar. With this retention system you can open by twisting with a screwdriver, raising the nibs high enough to slide the collar up or just apply enough upward force to the collar to dislodge it from the motor housing. Think you could also dislodge with sufficient twisting force but I haven't tried that. Easy Peasie -- Johnny O -- 8/2/2021
