I am able to connect and establish temporarily using Windows Vista Ultimate and a Hitachi CPX 275 but the signal will get corrupted after a couple minutes. The problem seems worse with the sidebar open on Vista

My search has reviled a couple of things. First, is your video cards chip-set supported? If so, are the latest drivers installed? Is Direct X up to date? You may have corrupt or missing or data in the Windows registry. Try the windows Installer cleanup utility. After that use a registry cleaner
Its illegal to use such used keys and you have to disable Automatic Updates. Please buy one. Use this temporarily. Oh first you have to tell me the version. This is for ultimate. FBK3P-9HCG-YJGBB-CRVGV-X32M9 (Act )

I work with Hp It is not that you cant fax from the solution centre but the fact that windows vista has an updated version of the registry which will not allow faxing from the pc unless you have windows Vista ultimate. Im not trying to blame Microsoft instead of Hp but I have taken calls where customers cannot fax using hp solution centre in vista and I started checking the registry and there is one component in Windows Vista Ultimate that is present which willl allow you to fax but This same registry entry is not there in other Windows Vista's. That is why I prefer using windows Xp rather to Darn Vista
Legally, no. Bur about 2 years ago I played games for a couple of weeks on Microsoft's live.com site to get myself a "free" copy of Vista Ultimate. Don't think they offer it as a prize any more though.
Did you happen to make a recovery point? Vista is pretty good about this. Restart your system and push f8 until you get to the recovery and troubleshooting. Then just use recovery console and restore it to a previous point. If you cant do this you might need to do a fresh install of vista.
