I have tried new timer, cleaned filter, checked heating element, etc... but for some reason my dishwasher will not end cycles. For example after short wash cycle, the dishwasher will continue to run forever, full water and spraying, unless I push past to next cycle (rinse cycle) by turning timer manually. This is why I thought there was a timer problem, but this proved not to be the case. What else could it be. I thought there might be a another sensor that I did not think of before that indicates to dishwasher it can move on ... is this possible and if so what could it be?
Is the water being heated??? When the timer reaches the stage where it will not move forward any further, after 5 minutes or so, open the door & see if the water is heating up. The timer often waits for the water to reach the correct temperature. Temp is measured by the thermostat. If the element tests OK, then it could be the relay that switches the element. The relay is turned on & off by the timer. I would say that if the timer is OK & the element has the correct resistance, then it is is more likely to be the relay. Last resort would be the thermostat, but my money is on the relay.

Hi,
I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

It seems that the water is heating up. The element definitely gets hot. When tub fills, should water actually be over heating element? It seems to me to be just below - perhaps not enough water?
Problem still exists. I do not see relay in wiring diagram, perhaps it is in timer which in my case is now new.
If I turn off for hi temp wash, all is fine, everything proceeds. The element does heat up for dry cycle.
Element measures at about 13 ohms, is this close to correct?
I will likely try new thermostat...but thought I would see if you had any other ideas.
I did a few experiments yesterday - water level does not actually get to float before it stops filling. Is this normal?
When it was approaching cycle where it stalls, obviously waiting for temperature to reach certain level - I filled dishwasher with more water using sink hose, getting water at least to level of float.
In this case, it worked, the dishwasher cycle completes and it moves on.
Crytech,
Thanks for your input, it helped towards figuring out issue. Essentially my thermostats needed replacing and also as water level does not get very high, takes a little longer for water to get heated to appropriate level, or at least for thermostat to pick it up.
Michael sounds like i have the same issue. Timer OK, element OK, could you send me a picture of your thermostat, i think mine is integrated into the heating element . however not sure. Also heard it could be the relay any extra help would be appreciated.
it will run a rinse cycle no issues but not a full wash and no water heat cycle
The timer will not move to the next cycle. Sticking on programme.
