Toshiba 42h81 picture shifted

A few days ago the picture shifted off center to the right. As a result of the convergence is off, green shadow around white objects and the overall picture is much darker. I have used the service menu to try and correct the convergence but it hasn't help much. Would resetting the HPOS back to the original code help? Does anyone have the default values for the 42H81? Thank you Henry

My picture is wavy and out of focus. when i touch the auto focus it goes through the function but ends with failure. it is a toshiba 42h81.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

Shadows on the screen

You have convergence output failure. The output ICs will need to be replaced and possibly a small component like a resistor or two as well. Expect to pay a service company $350-$450 to resolve this.

Toshiba Model # 42H81 Picture Problem

Can you describe the issue a little more? It may be a convergence issue which is quite common on big screens. But there are quite a few issues that can cause a bad picture.

If it's convergence, you'll be able to tell by going to a news channel and looking at the text. If the convergence is bad you'll see a ghosting like image of 2 or 3 letters for each one that should be there.

Toshiba 56H80 Convergence Problem?

There are 2 large IC's in your set and one of them has burned out. These are called convergence output IC's and are usually the STK392-010's. A good idea would be to go ahead and replace both with the newer, upgraded STK392-150 IC's. A good tech can change those IC's in about an hour and a half, and when I do a housecall for a set like that I charge $150, but shops in your area will vary so be sure to ask around.
